(Note: I'm am not a Roman Catholic)

I noticed today that KIXL 970 has been replaced with RelevantRadio 970 AM. I must say that I was pretty impressed. It was not stuffy or pretentious as I had expected.

I was surprised by how evangelical it was in focus and execution. I however, am not sure how they are going to service the 3.4 million dollar note running that particular format, as I believe it is noncommercial and the audience being such a niche.

More about Relevant Radio at their website www.relevantradio.com
Still nothing on that site about the addition of 970 in Austin.

BTW, 970 has had the KIXL call since 1974. Originally had a MOR format for a year, then a year of oldies, then flipped to the religious talk format in 1976.

Anyone heard a legal ID? Are they still KIXL?

With all the religious stations on the air pushing a Protestant Evangelical viewpoint, it makes sense to see the Catholic Church's position get some exposure as well. Southeast Texas has seen the addition of EWTN and Radio Maria affiliates in the past few years.

That is true in the area outside of Austin. The only local station on AM that is Protestant is Gospel 1060.

I can get WACO and San Antonio AM here, but we have not had many thunderstorms lately.

Quality of 99.3 FM signal varies.

They need to get permission to strengthen the signal in Austin.

Gospel 1060 is all over the map. Probably whatever will pay the most money, which unfortunately are usually false teachers preaching health and wealth. Their signal is terrible and they have no personality.

I presume you are talking about 1010 KBW from Waco and AM1100 KDRY and the Word AM 630 KSLR from San Antonio. These stations come in better than KFIT in almost every part of the metro.

Turning KLGO 99.3 mono increased the signal dramatically. It covers a lot more ground than I expected, but even in Hutto, 99.3 sounds pretty crummy.

This won't happen any time soon. In fact, I am not sure there is a whole lot they can do without major FCC rule changes. 99.5 KISS in San Antonio is getting a signal upgrade and their is a new allotment for a 99.1 in Moody (north of Temple).

You are right in your AM assumptions.

Do these events rule out just getting permission to move the transmitter closer to Austin?
