KIYS 101.9 Jonesboro to Memphis move app

Very interesting. And, to think this now counts as a minor change!

Signal would not be the best. The contour you see on the map is the 60 dBu, not the City Grade. So, by the time one gets to Germantown/Collierville, the signal may be suffering. Still, it would be fine Downtown, Midtown, etc.

minor change wow adding 30 miles of signal to the s/e and moving the tower 50 miles or more is a minor change.

I wonder now if this is why 102.3 applied to move farther south.
I see protection for WFTA. Does anyone know without looking too hard who they are protecting to the N/E?

The music formats in Memphis are so loaded down with the exception of country.... Maybe a competitor to WGKX?

Or with CC's current trends in markets like Pittsburgh, Tallahassee, Minneapolis and others could we see WREC move to FM?

KIYS was never sold. It was simply LMA'ed to East Arkansas Broadcasters, which acquired the remainder of the CC Jonesboro cluster. Clear Channel didn't sell KIYS because it had planned to move it into Memphis from the beginning. It was even spelled out in the LMA.

OK, how does this affect reception of 102.3 (an EAB station, BTW) into Memphis?

What direction do they take the frequency? Do they stay KISS and fight with 100/107.5? Do they go country and simulcast KWHF with more pf a Memphis orientation? Do they make it WREC-FM and put the right-wing blowhards on FM?

What do you think?

I don't know. I've wondered if East Arkansas will try to move another station, like 92.5 or 102.3, into Jonesboro for KIYS to land. However, I don't know how feasible that is.

The KIYS calls and format will be sold to East Arkansas Broadcasters if they choose, and they can be put on another station. I can't imagine East Arkansas getting rid of their top station in Jonesboro, but they have so many successful stations, it's hard for me to see what they'd blow up for KISS. Maybe they'd take 103.9, which they're already operating, and put either KISS or KWHF there? I don't see a KWHF simulcast happen since East Arkansas owns it now, and Clear Channel will be keeping 101.9.

Hmmm...a tower site over near Shelby Farms.

They are going to have opposition, I bet. Those folks over there like their neighborhood. They fought Memphis and won over annexation.

North of Shelby Forrest actually unless that is what you meant.

I don't think we can expect to see 101.9 out in Shelby Farms with WFTA still down in Fulton & KBUD in Sardis... WORM is probably not an issue as its a bit farther out.

Nope, I meant Shelby Forrest. It was a blonde moment.

I was driving to Midtown tonight from work, listening to 102.3 and heard this ID

"Oldies 102.3 KTRQ Colt-Lakeland-Olive Branch".

OK, if that's the case, why not move 92.5 to Earle, Parkin or even Marion, boost the power as much as is allowed and taken on KIX?

Your thoughts?

Great idea. But, ain't a possibility.

92.5's current CP, which will place the transmitter a bit east of Forest City, is as far as it will move. There are at least two issues that keep 92.5 west. Those include, but are not limited to, 92.9/Bartlett and 92.7/Holly Springs.

One doesn't just get to move stations about -- even under the new rules -- willy-nilly. They still have to fit.

Ah. That's what I needed to know, thank you!
