KJAZ listed as country??

Why is KJAZ listed as country in Radio-Locator? It has been off the air for several years now.

Probably because no one has emailed Theodric over at radio locator to let him know. If KJAZ has really been off the air for several years they are gambling their license with the FCC especially since they filed this with their license renewal a couple of weeks ago:

Exhibit 13
Description: SILENT STATUS

DURING CERTAIN PERIODS BETWEEN 2006 TO 2010, KJAZ WAS TEMPORARILY SILENT DUE TO LOSS OF TOWER SITE. THE STATION HAS SINCE RELOCATED AND HAS BEEN ON THE AIR SINCE 2011.

Unless they are operation in very low power, I never was able to pick them up. Use to when they were on the air I could get them most of the time.

There isn't a current STA stating that they are operating at reduced power so you might be right and they are just lying to the FCC.

I want to know how Paulino Bernal is going to make out on all his license renewals? Just looking at two renewal applications, one for KMFM and KDFM (both of which have been off the air for 3-4 years) he certified YES in the renewal application for these three lines:

4. Adherence to Minimum Operating Schedule. Licensee certifies that, during the preceding license term, the station has not been silent (or operating for less than its prescribed minimum operating hours) for any period of more than 30 days.

If No, submit an Exhibit specifying the exact dates in the preceding license term on which the station was silent or operating for less than its prescribed minimum hours.

5. Discontinued Operations. Licensee certifies that during the preceding license term, the station has not been silent for any consecutive 12-month period.

6. Silent Station Licensee certifies that the station is currently on the air broadcasting programming intended to be received by the public.

It would be nice if someone in the FCC's Enforcement Bureau read these boards and jammed all these radio owners who blatantly lie and operate illegally for years! Enough is enough with all the illegal radio operations here in TX.

Just about every station Bernal owns is off the air, half the translators in San Antonio are broadcasting illegally, AM daytime only stations in Corpus Christi, San Antonio, etc all broadcasting 24 hours a day (and not just every now and then...KROB has been broadcasting at night since 2002), stations all over Texas not transmitting EAS, the list goes on and on. It's ridiculous!

For a second I thought you were talking about KAJZ 96.3 over in Llano, Texas. I've picked it up before and it's translator on 102.1. Nice smooth jazz station, though I've wondered why they chose that format.

But yeah Infamous, it seems the FCC does exist over here in Texas as they busted Q100 in McKinney. But the question is, why'd they go after a good sounding station that tries it's hardest and not Radio Ola or Claro, both are much worse than the McKinney guy if you want my opinion.

Looking at Google earth, 3/10/11 when the picture was took en, I don't even see a tower there. I looked at street view also and do not see a tower.

If they are on the air, it must be in low power. I'm in the fringe area and can't pick them up. Even with my outdoor antenna going towards Victoria Its picking up KTFM. I use to could back in the day when it was on the air.
