Thanks for letting us know! Will KJJR go up to 50kw for this test? Either way, this one should be easier to pick up for those of us in the middle of the country compared to the WBOB Dx test.

Yes, we are planning on that. "More details regarding reception reports, verifications, etc. will be sent in the coming days. We are rushing to make this announcement to give as many DX'ers notification of the upcoming test as possible."

Just caught the mistake.. no they wont go to 50kw. Theyre only licensed for 10kw. They can only test at parameters theyre licensed for

Okay good to know, still sounds like fun to me. Is there anything else I should know about this opportunity?

More information regarding QSL and verification for January 8th's test. Joseph Miller will design a custom QSL card for those who pick up KJJR during the test. Reports may not be sent by regular mail, only via email. However, I think the email link is broken so Les will have to fix it.

ALSO A REMINDER THAT THE WEEKEND AFTER THIS ONE...KQKD 1380 REDFIELD SD WILL TEST ON 500 WATT DAY POWER. It will be early Saturday morning, 1/15/22, 12:01-3:00AM CT, 1:01-4:00AM ET.

No, the email link is right and does work, les would know his own email.. the groups did that on the web so an address cant be harvested .

The FCC allows Dx Tests to use up to 100% of their Daytime power, which is awesome!
It's called the Experimental Period....the FCC doesn't recognize "DX test" officially. No commercials allowed but full daytime power and pattern is permitted but any complaint of interference can cause the test to terminate.

Thank you for the insight

REMINDER, THE TEST IS TONIGHT!!

The Courtesy Program Committee (CPC) of the National Radio Club (NRC) and the International Radio Club of America (IRCA) is pleased to announce a special DX Test for distant listeners for KJJR on 880 kHz in Whitefish, MT. The test is scheduled for 1/8/2022 at 12:01 AM Mountain Time (0701 UTC, 8 January). This test is scheduled to run for 2 hours.

For KJJR, Todd Clark, chief engineer, will be performing regular maintenance of the station's audio chain during the test. Listeners will hear: Morse Code IDs at 10 WPM at 800 Hz, Morse Code IDs at 20 WPM at 1000 Hz, Tone Sweeps, Long duration tones at 1 kHz, Off-hook Telephone Sounds, Music, Jingles and more. Test will be conducted at their daytime power of 10,000 watts.

RECEPTION REPORTS & QSL REQUESTS
All reception reports will be verified through the CPC with an electronic QSL. Reception reports along with MP3 recordings or .MP4 video recordings of your reception should be emailed to:
[email protected]. Please be sure to use the subject line: "KJJR 880 RECEPTION REPORT."

The following requirements are in effect in order to receive an electronic QSL verifying your report:
  • Reports via email only. Email must include an MP3 file attachment of your reception (best two minutes or so in length) or an MP4 video clip. While written descriptions will be considered along with the recording, they will not suffice alone for verification.
  • Reports must be submitted within 30 days of the test (February 8, 2022)
  • The report must include your name, location, and return email address, clearly grouped together at the top of the verification request.
  • Please also include a description of your receiver, antenna, and any interference noted.
  • If you use a remote SDR to receive the test, you must clearly indicate that in your verification request. We will only accept one such report per DX'er. You cannot log the test on multiple remote SDRs and request multiple verifications.

The IRCA/NRC CPC would like to thank the owners of KJJR, Todd Clark, and CPC member Paul Walker for helping to arrange the test.

Good luck to all DXers!

About the CPC
The Courtesy Program Committee (CPC) is a cross-functional group comprised of members of both the National Radio Club (NRC) and International Radio Club of America (IRCA) for the purpose of coordinating and arranging DX Tests with AM radio stations. These DX tests both allow radio stations to conduct valuable equipment tests on their transmitter and audio chain as well as enable DX hobbyists to receive the testing station from greater distances than would normally be possible. The CPC membership consists of: Chairman Les Rayburn, Paul Walker, George Santulli, Joe Miller and Loyd Van Horn.

For radio stations interested in coordinating a DX test with the CPC, please visit the following Web site for more information: DX_Test

For more information on the types of content heard during a DX test, "An introduction to DX Tests" video is available at DX Central:

It should be in like a ton of bricks here. KJJR is a regular during winter afternoons, sometimes even at night. It's the KQKD test I'm more excited about. They are not in the logbook here.
Of course, if I end up moving to Idaho this summer (a likely chance), KJJR may be a daytime regular. It's 125 miles from Coeur D'Alene and around 100 from Sandpoint.

We are just 1 HOUR and 35 MINUTES away from the test, right?

Also, it's cool that Lloyd Van Horn got involved on this one

Right on time at 1:01 a.m. CT, KJJR 880 morse code, then sweep tones. It was funny to hear the morse code colliding with car horns from a report on CBS' top of the hour news on WCBS, which still rules the frequency. But KJJR is in there in the Chicago area. WLS nulled. For me, two Montana stations in a week after decades without. Radio is cool.

Receivers: Sony ICF-2010, wide with and without sync (the former at 879.9); Sony SRF-A100 with Tecsun AM-200 loop. Better on the 2010, of course, even without a loop, WLS being more of a pain on the A100. No luck with a little Radio Shack pocket radio, maybe 30 years old, even with the loop, though that brought in WCBS quite clearly.

Same here. I'm getting sweeping tones and morse code occasionally from KJJR, but KRVN (280 miles from my QTH in Cheyenne, WY) is just way too overpowering here. I have not been able to shake it yet.
