Here's a little clarification from a guy who actually works for the 4 station group which includes KJJZ.
First, I am surprised and delighted that people here are paying attention to our little station here in market 131.
Second - please understand that I am not a decision-maker within this group of stations. I write and produce commercials for all 4 stations in a studio adjacent to KJJZ. Here, my opinion on programming is not sought, nor do I offer it. I am not a radio programmer.
A couple of months ago, the decision was made to adopt the Broadcast Architecture Smooth AC format. It was my job to load all the new liners for all the hosts into the program software.
Well, in a short time, listener objections and advertiser resistance were significant enough that they could not be ignored. The station flipped back to Broadcast Architecture's Smooth Jazz, but retained the "Smooth 102.3" identity.
For the moment, all is well! No listener complaints. Reticent advertisers back on board. I have no idea nor do I care to speculate what will happen in the months ahead.
I know that most folks on this board regard Broadcast Architecture as the great Satan. All I can say is that in our little market, there are music fans who love what BA provides - so many, in fact, that it caused management to return to the format. I guess a lot of listeners just like to hear their favorite, familiar smooth jazz trax.
Regarding the playlist posted on the website: Yes, the playlist is still showing the Smooth AC songs. It is inexcusable. I hope it will be corrected. I can't tell you why that playlist is there nor will I try to justify it.
KJJZ is fighting in a very competitive market of about 20 stations where the economy ain't great. Decisions are made to please as many listeners and advertisers as possible.
