KJJZ Palm Springs

I remember a few years ago when KJJZ temporarily switched to Smooth AC, that is, vocals from Anita Baker, Sting, Sade, etc. with only an occasional Smooth Jazz instrumental. They switched back in a few weeks after they got so many callers saying they wanted the old format to return. Could that happen again?

Darn it! Another ex-Jones affiliate bites the dust. I know of WAEG, KWDR, WEIB, KOAZ, KAJZ (no stream) and WSBZ left, plus HD-2s and 3s.

Not likely, given that they also own Classic Hits KDGL ("The Eagle") and Active Rock KCLB. This format flip positions the third signal to be sold in combination with the other two more easily. When you own stations that can be sold together, flipping one back to a format which breaks up the combo is the last thing you consider before going silent and returning the license.

Kjjz

With the flip of KJJZ to Classic Rock I want to invite you to listen to Smooth Jazz 24/7 Commercial Free on www.969theoasis.org. My station is Internet Only and began in Hemet, CA. I play both mainstream smooth jazz, some AC Artists, and Indie Smooth Jazz Artists. Join me LIVE at 7 AM Pacific for some stress free music. Dale

In case anyone cares, the FCC approved the new calls KRHQ today.

Thanks. Wonder if 103.9 will pick up the KJJZ call letters.

Anyone had the chance to listen to Fitz on 103.9 The Perfect Blend yet? I noticed they dropped the "Easy" off the branding.

KJJZ calls are on 95.9 now.

KCLB is Classic Rock. It, Eagle 106.9 classic hits, kkuu 92.7, the 103.9 which is a translator plus a number of am stations in the market have been sold by Morris to Alpha. KJJZ 102.3, now KRHQ is owned by Todd Marker who also owns KPLM country, 99.5 the r and b oldies station, and a soft ac at 95.9.

Terrestrial Radio

You mean people actually still listen to terrestrial radio. Man what you are missing on the WWW.

Nock

Terrible radio station that advertises new rock? Ha? Oldest rock Ive heard!

Horrible song line up. Plays music I had hoped was buried forever. I am so sad to see KJJZ go away. Where is Fitz now? I bought sirius. No longer put 102.3 on at our business either.

so sad!

Huge mistake dropping the jazz format! Realize ratings dropped, but it filled a much needed niche. Your other two stations are strong enough to carry it until it could be built back up If you tried hard enough. Don't think Fitz helped your ratings. Now you've got three losers doing what everyone else is doing.

Former KJJZ listeners, PLEASE READ THIS

These "unregistered guest" posts are worded in such a way that it is obvious to me that these come from former listeners trying to convince the station to switch back.

This site has no official connection with KJJZ's owners (Marker Broadcasting). In fact, I would be surprised if they even know this thread exists. In any event, posting on a message board never -- and I mean never -- has a convincing effect on station owners.

Quite honestly, having seen the ratings, there simply weren't enough of you to justify the continued effort of selling advertising separately from the other two co-owned stations. I am 99% certain the format change was made to allow all three stations to be sold as a combination ad buy.

However, if you still feel the need to vent at them, do them the favor of contacting them directly so that they'll know you said something.
