KJLH is so unfocused right now.

Why is 102.3 KJLH playing Fancy by Drake and runaway love by justin Bieber. Is KJLH urban contemporary or Urban AC. Why are they playing Rap music now a days. I would like to hear airchecks from the 90's and early 2000's to compare the differance.

they can get away with it because they know no other station in L.A will challenge them for the black listener. KJLH will always super serve the dwindling black listener in L.A, even with its poor signal. BTW the programming sucks as a black listener I do not listen to the crap they air

Think back to 1995-1996 when KJLH Played all R&B and never touched hip hop. Back in 1995-1996 the songs they had in heavy rotation was All The Things(Your man Won't Do) by Joe, soon as I get home by Faith Evans and alot of Mary J Blige in 1995 when radio was playing songs worth listening to.

Wow! They actually went from 'Whip My Hair' to 'Midnight Train To Georgia' in midday! It gets worse...What i'd say by Ray Charles to Kush by Dr. Dre in pm drive? I couldn't believe it, almost wrecked my car! What happened?

That whole station is blind including it's owner. Stevie Wonder is just trying to keep the station up and running for another 30 years. He let almost everyone of the airstaffers go After Cliff Winston left, KJLH went down hill from there. Frankie Ross left in 2003 they hire Tammi Mac to do evenings. Lon Mc Q is the only dj who is hanging in there for now. I hate the Steve Harvey morning show why did KJLH even pick him up in the first place.

Wow I understand how you feel. Their local morning show was good. Guy Black was very entertaining to listen too. I miss Kevin Nash during the midday and even Delores Thompson but those days are over. They went after Steve Harvey just for ratings but it's not helping. KJLH glory days are over and sorry to say it Los Angeles will never have a full power Urban station again.

KXOL took most of KKBT's listeners and KIIS went Rhythmic a few years back. The demo has changed in LA and Hip Hop is not as popular as it was in the early 2000's

If KJLH wants to play hip hop they need to program the station right.

1 Local Morning Show
2 Urban AC during the day Classic R&B during lunch
3 After 5 or 6pm play Hip Hop and R&B and Slow jams during the night (Rythms of Night ring a bell)
4 Weekends Hip Hop and R&B Sundays are fine with gospel but end it at 3pm or 7pm like before.

Basically a full service Urban station might work but not gonna happen. Its a mess now.

KHHT is the next thing to R&B despite being now Rythmic AC or Oldies.

Rhythm of the Night? I don't remember that. I used to listen to The Night Beat with Kevin Nash on 92.3 The Beat.

I never got a chance to listen to night beat. I remeber rhythmns of the night because my mom would listen to KJLH at night back in the mid 90's.

Stevie needs to swallow his pride and put his ego in his pocket and get cliff winston back, the station has been a mess since winston left. KJLH will remain a minor player because of PPM. It needs a crafty programmer to return it to it's "Glory Days"

Here they go again... how about this set...'The Soul Controller' by Ghostface Killer' to Sam Cooke' 'A Change is Gonna Come' to Seal 'A Change is Gonna Come' to 'Black and Yellow'? What is the format? In pm drive no less! I'm confused. Sounds like sabotage. I find myself listening just to see what they will play next! BTW, What are their ratings these days?

KJLH is a joke of an urban contemporary station. They still claim that their format is Urban AC. An Urban AC doesn't play Nicki Minaj, Ludacris, and Drake in the same rotation as Kem, Charlie Wilson and Kirk Franklin the list goes on

I'd say the smartest thing for CC to do is to take out off all the awful "oldies" on Hot 92.3 and actually become an urban AC. They could surely do better than how they do now.

Seriously, if they're going to do rhythmic AC, at least sound like Magic 92.5 in San Diego or to an extent, 105.7 The Oasis in Las Vegas.

I would'nt consider them a joke they have a rich history and its one of the longest running radio stations in Los Angeles. Its the last Urban formatted station in LA. But they need a more focused playlist. Since there is no mainstream urban in LA there trying to fill the void but at the same time they turning away their longtime listeners

Their ratings are now usually below a 1.0 share Normally its a 0.8 or 0.9 Last time they had a 2.0 share was around 2003 dont know how they pulled that off. But I agree the music is a mess. I heard small town stations with a more focus playlist.

I remeber the day Stevie Wonder and Adai Lamar were talking about Cliffs departure. He never told them he was going to leave
but you cant blame him. Sometimes you have to move on to better things. Better signal and a higher rated station makes sense. He would still be there if the station was still around. The funny thing is that both KDAY and KJLH were excited about the new PPM rating system. It was actually a wake up call for them well for KDAY YOU CANT FOCUS ON ONE TYPE OF RACE IN THIS MARKET.

They were Urban AC when they first launched but the ratings dipped and their main goal was to go after hispanic women first most and still serve the african american women along whites and asain. And its Art Laboes home now and people like it.

Remember when Frankie Ross was the program director called the station Rhythm 102.3 KJLH. When and why did they use that moniker.

KJLH needs to dump this Urban AC front and play Hip Hop & R&B 24/7 like 92.3 The Beat/100.3 The Beat & Power 106 used to do in the 90's and early 2000's.

no brains at home @ KJLH they still think they can be all things to all people. someone needs to tell them its 2011

A station can be most things to the majority of the people, but it requires a little thing called "dayparting". Something the programmer at KJLH needs to practice with operating this station.

1. Local Morning Show

2.During the day Hip Hop & R&B

3. 5-8 pm Mix Show

4. 8-12am Slow Jams with Kevin Nash

If 102.3 KJLH wants to be Mainstream Urban

Dayparting MAY save the station, BUT they also have to learn to program more to than just an African-American audience. I realize the station has a rich history with African-Americans, but sometimes history doesn't pay the bills. Between 9am and 2pm weekdays, play more R&B/Urban focused tracks (with no Hip-Hop), then between 2pm until 10pm focus on Rhythmic R&B and Hip-Hop music (stuff that is played on Power 106 and KIIS-FM 102.7). Then later in the evening, a slow jam show. I am not saying this is a perfect formula, but it has to be better than what they are doing now. On Sundays, they could have an R&B old school show. Saturdays could be rhythmic all day long.
