KJLL Going Hot AC?

Is it just me or does it seem like Adult Hits KJLL is going a bit more Hot AC...

Sunday, May 3rd
8:55- Pink-Who Knew
9:02- Gin Blossoms- Til I Hear It From You
9:06- Jordin Sparks- No Air
9:10- Shaina Twain- Man! I Feel Like A Woman!
9:14- REO Speedwagon- Take It On The Run

Yes, the format is Adult Hits but if you see the whole playlist through out the day, you'll see more of what I mean. They're playing too many currents for an adult hits format in my opinion. The station's tweaked its playlist completely since the launch of the station. Anyone smell a format change soon?

I have been following JILL-FM for a while and they seem to be uneven in their playlist over a few months time. What I mean is for a while they sound closer to a "hits" version of a AAA station, then they tweak and it sounds closer to a Hot AC/CHR hybrid. Earlier in the "JILL" format run, they played a whole lot of oldies including Elvis and the Beatles. Songs from the late 50s and early 60s were even played. That was maybe two-three years ago when the 'format' was new.

So yes lately I've noticed what you have. I wonder if it has to do with a different MD or PD ??

My opinion is they should forget about imitating CHR or Hot AC or AC or whatever. Few are listening and fewer can receive them decently. They emphasize their west valley/Thousand Oaks connection and almost totally sound like they don't know they have a pretty decent signal covering Newport Beach/Costa Mesa and much of the rest of Orange County. So I think they should serve a niche audience because they have a niche signal. They should go after many of the lost Indie music fans and/or disaffected fans of AAA who are not being served by that faux Adult Alternative radio station 100.3 The Sound which is a lightweight classic rock/lightweight adult alternative station in actual practice. Why not? With a little bit of marketing and promotion, they'd probably improve their dismal 0.1 - 0.2 PPM ratings.

That's what I was thinking too. The station gets coverage throughout all of Southern California. The station can even come in clearly in San Diego! I think why the station is going a little more Hot AC/CHR is because of the PPM Ratings. I think they're trying to attract a more widespread audience but there's little chance that it's gonna help.

Have you ever been to the Thousand Oaks studios? They don't care that it doesn't serve Orange County (they do have trade with pathetic independent KDOC for spots). This station is run as a tax loss for Amaturo. It's never going to be anything. There are about 12 employees full and part time total. They don't have a program director or music director just an ops manager and production director.

Amaturo was offered a kings ransom years ago and passed (he wanted more) around the time when KXOL sold for $250 million.

Kinda funny and sad considering there's more money and people in the OC

Congratulations...two more posters to this string and we'll have doubled the Jill cume...

The station's music is done entirely by consultant George Johns. Also, expect to see a new Market Manager hired any day now who's sole job it will be to develop sales revenue in Orange County.

Good luck with that. They had or have a south Orange County "sales office" in Lake Forest opened in late 2006 IIRC. But they never got too much traction out of it apparently. I know one sales rep for OC is no longer with them. If what Glenn said is correct (tax write-off) then why bother with a new managerial hire?

Only the OC station has any useful coverage in the LA metro, and it covers, usefully, 1.6 million persons out of over 13 million in the market. The Thousand Oaks signal is mostly put over Ventura County, and adds about 300 thousand in the LA market, in the far part of the San Fdo. Valley. Total, 1.9 million in the LA market, out of 13 million.

The OC signal is horribly ripped by inversion in spring and fall, too.

The Victor Valley signal covers 200.000 persons, none in the LA market or even near. That is about 49% of the 550,000 victor valley population.

These figures are based on the 64 dbu signal, where 95% of listening at home and at work takes place.

Why would Joe Amaturo want to have a loss that could be applied to profits elsewhere, if he has no other stations. That's just a lack of understanding by Glen of how business is run.

Whatever you say, David. I'm sorry you don't understand how to move tax losses between businesses. Get yourself a better accountant. I own businesses and I've also worked for Amaturo. I also know what other businesses Amaturo owns.

I don't think he has any other business any longer, other than retirement investments.

Glen, I worked for him too...

A loss in one business can be applied to another part of the same business.

But if you have a loss it means you did not make a profit... if you did, you would pay a percentage in taxes and keep the rest. Why would you WANT to lose money to avoid taxes? That means you would give up the profit that you could keep just so you would not have to pay taxes? That's absurd.

Muvico is his biggest investment, currently. It has one location in California, where else, in Thousand Oaks. Most locations are in Florida. Lots of real estate.

Here's a question to you. What is the most valuable part of XM/Sirius? That will give you the Amaturo answer.

Amaturo does not own Muvico. He is an investor, and a minority one in fact. He is not even on the management roster.

I can't write off GM's losses against my taxes even if I own GM shares.

Would you like me to post the Muvico press release that includes his name? He is not a minority investor in it anymore. Go back to March 2009. Would you like me to post his other real estate investments?

Where did I say he owned Muvico?

XM Sirius has huge loss carryforwards, but they are usable only by a controlling owner.

Loss carryforwards are often the reason shell corporations are bought by businesses. But nobody makes a business lose money just to save taxes... when they would lose the larger earnings that would have been taxed were the business to make money.

You aren't even in the ballpark.
