You have to go deep in your memory on this one: KJMD, licensed to Laneville, signed on in September 1986 and was no longer listed in Broadcasting Yearbook with the 1992 edition. The station was 500 watts and a daytimer.
I understand the studios were at 100 Kilgore in Henderson. The tower was about 8 miles north of Laneville. Joan Maddox was listed as the General Manager. From what I gather, it may have been a church-owned station. I am sure Laneville was chosen as a city of license to show a first service as there is not much to Laneville.
The format was always listed as religious but after 1989, it was reported as Classical & Religious.
Interestingly, the open spot rate by daypart was $15, $12 and $15 respectively in 1987 but before 1990 had been reduced to $11, $9 and $9.
I listened to the station one time for about 30 to 45 minutes. It was in the noon hour and interrupted for a stop for gas. During my listen, I heard traditional hymns and non-rock/pop vocalists singing traditional Christian songs. KHCB FM in Houston was a bit more 'traditional' than today and their music would describe the non-hymn material.
I recall a couple of seconds between selections with an ID at 12:15 and 12:30. I never heard a commercial or promo. It is my thinking I listened in 1988. I recall altering my route to drive through Laneville and that the station had only been on the air at least a year but not quite two years.
Can anyone tell me more about KJMD and it's history?
