KJME-KCEG-KFEZ

My wife and were in Colorado Springs visiting our daughter and family this weekend. I caught the two new area AM's KJME-890 and KCEG-780.
KJME is strictly big band. It's automated, the music transfers don't sound that good and the processing seems to be set for hearing aids. The classic country format on KCEG has the same characteristics. I have no idea how deep the libraries are on either station but I did hear a decent variety of "stuff" during the couple of hours I spent punching between the two.

There's a true soft AC in the area, KFEZ-101.3 in Walsenberg, south of Pueblo. Due to distance etc. it didn't have a local-like signal into Colorado Springs/Fort Carson but I have to admit I became intrigued when I heard Sammy Davis Jr's "Mr. Bogangles" when the car radio scan function stopped at 101.3!

KFEZ does stream and they also have a smooth jazz block in the early evening.

Very little bass, excessive emphasis in the upper mid range of the audio (2 to 3 khz frequencies), very little dynamic range, distortion on loud segments.

I wear "personal communication assistants" as one hearing aid manufacture calls their devices. That's what the processing sounds like, the output of a modern hearing aid badly in need of adjustment.

I just really don't know how processing helps the listening experience.

I have heard songs where lots of bass is good, mostly standards. With a lot of today's music, and even some easy listening in its later years, that might not be a good thing. AC radio for a long time had these pounding drums on soft songs like Celine Dion, which really sounded out of place. I've found smooth jazz generally has too much percussion.
