Checked it last night and KJOJ is now running "Azucar". Sounds like a tropical format.

Too bad that 880 has a weak signal in The Galleria area daytime and is non-existant at night. You would think that 880 could send a better signal into the city daytime, there is a good deal of distance between 850 and 880 and the 25mV/m signals can come close to each other and I would not think upgrading nights with more than 1kW would be difficult. The format might have a chance if KJOJ had a good city signal.

880 is directional NW over Lake Conroe during the day....hence, there is little signal toward Houston...(throwing more signal to the SW may involve Mexican coordination; upgrading night signal which IS directional SW @ 1KW, which has the same level as it does during the daytime 10KW signal, would be the same thing)....

According to some David Eduardo posts on the DFW board a while back, the "Azucar" format was supposedly going to be launched on one of Liberman's newly acquired stations there last fall, but it never materialized amongst several format flips. Looks like Houston gets it first.

I remember the proposed azucar format. Looks like we also got the "El Norte" format but with the name changed a bit into "La Nortena 850 y 101.7". I noticed that about a week ago, they were just playing Norteno music without a name. I guess they finally figured out the name.

Wow, Libernman likes to be creative with their formats (sarcasm)
Houston = Dallas = Los Angeles
Regional Mexican =La Raza 98.5 103.3 = La raza 93.7 = La Que Buena
Spanish Contemporary =XO Radio 107.9/96.9 = Concierto 101.7
Norteno =La Nortena 850/101.7 = El Norte 98.3
Ranchero =Radio Ranchito 1230 = La Ranchera 1540 = La Ranchera 930

(Sorry if my chart is very very bad in yuou computer, We might have different settings)

Good post. I noticed the new format on 850 a couple weeks ago, but got tired of listening for a moniker. Thanks!

"Concierto" was actually different than "XO" as it was the previous format on 850/101.7.

Houston had a Nortena station about ten years ago on 97.1 but it didn't last long...that was before that facility moved to the taller tower.

Actually, I heard, (haven't confirmed) that liberman only used the name, The station is very similar to XO and the station only changed the name from Super Estrella. Don't let the name fool you. I got fooled

From Radio and Records:

Liberman Closes On Dallas Cluster, Makes Changes
Nov. 03, 2006
By Jackie Madrigal

"The sale and transfer of ownership of Entravision Radio's Dallas cluster (Latin pop KTCY, regional Mexican KZMP-FM, ethnic KZMP-AM, Latin rhythm KZZA and Spanish adult hits KBOC) to Liberman Broadcasting is complete, and the new owners have made some changes.

KTCY remains a pop station but has changed its name to "Concierto," "

Huh? When did KJOJ break away from KTJM? How long have they been simulcasting KQUE?

They are talking about KJOJ-AM 880 Conroe. KJOJ-AM used to be Asian, then it started simulcasting KQUE, and now, it has it's own format.
The KJOJ you are thinking of is 103.3. That station has not changed. It is still simulcasting with KTJM
