KJR 950 heard in TN

I found this on the I Love AM Radio FB group. A guy in metro Nashville made a post about WAKM (950) in Franklin, TN being off the air, and he said he heard KJR Seattle in Nashville. That's a distance of over 1975 miles.

Phil said: Unlike most distant catches, this one did NOT suddenly fade at the top of the hour ID! Came up out of the slop enough for the ID to be heard, then was gone. Was on the car radio at 6:00am CT. Never caught this one again.

Impressive stuff! 950 for me at my home location has only produced a few "garden variety" nice catches. Most notably KIMN (Denver), R. Reloj (Cuba), and CFAM (Altona, MB....an hour south-southwest of Winnipeg just north of the U.S.-Canada border). The local Chicago 950 is aimed away from me, so they're not a factor on the channel at night. Usually what I hear is WWJ.

Wow--KJR, now that would be quite a catch in the midwest. Like Cyberdad I usually hear a mix with WWJ mostly on top behind the Chicago 950. I have also heard Denver a few times.

KJR used to be a very easy catch to the east. When nearly all stations signed off on Monday morning, I'd hear it once KIMN went off on what was a nearly empty frequency back in the very early 60's. It was nearly as reliable as KXLF in MT or KTFI in ID if there was an opening to the Northwest.

Those were the days. I used to stay up Monday mornings and hear stations from coast to coast. Sure miss those days/nights.

KXLF -- that was Butte's Rock station, right? I hear it under its more recent news-talk guise, KXTL. Always cool to hear Butte... it's an interesting place to visit. A lot of cool old buildings.

Bumping up.
950 in Montana is now in Helena, KCAP (ex-KMTX). Heard them for the first time when they were oldies/standards and now air news/talk. KCAP used to be on 1340.
KXLF on the other hand is CBS ch 4 in Butte.
KJR is a fantastic catch from TN! I've heard WSM here a couple of times, but they are darn rare compared to the much more common KMTI Manti UT.
