I've noticed their numbers have slipped over the past few books. Is this solely a case of a mediocre Mariner's team and no other local sports to really cover over the past 6 months or are certain shows struggling and bringing the rest of the station down? With the Hawks starting back up as well as Husky and Coug football, is it just a matter of time before KJR's numbers are on the rise again?

KJR just hired Ian Furness from KFXX/Portland - I suspect to replace Locke. Perhaps that - along with the end of Mariners and (possibly) no SB repeat for the 'Hawks - could just be the nudge needed to rebuild the numbers.

I was a long time KJR listener and have fallen off in the last few years. However, recently I've found myself coming back. With The Buzz gone from Seattle airwaves KJR has a hot talk feel without having to sit through a KISW 12 pack. I've found myself listening to Mitch more and more because he's more tolerable than BJ and T-Man. Speaking of the hot talk feel has anyone noticed the harder sounding imaging coming from KVI? Very interesting coming from that station.

KVI

...that must be the midday sounds of Ken Schram's 'Schrammie' bobblehead trophy
with the new pull-string 'audio' feature:

[ziiiiip] "I AM SCHRAMMIE, HEAR ME ROAR!"
[ziiiip| "IGNORANCE IS BLISS, BUT YOU'RE NUTS!"
[ziiiip} "SHAKE MY HEAD AND I'LL SUPER-SIZE YA!"

a-hem...

Yes. I honestly feel once football really picks up...there will be more interest. I know I will listen much more.

Although I would recommend getting DJ's that actually know what they're talking about. I'm listening to Mitch give away tickets a few minutes ago to the big Seahawks/San Francisco game this weekend. Sorry Mitch they are playing Arizona. He repeated it twice without anyone correcting him...and had to pause a tad before remembering they play at Qwest Field. I understand people make mistakes when talking about certain subjects but this is a sports guy on a sports station.

Mitch cares too much about himself to get things right.

KJR has rarely sold off the Arbitron numbers, it doesn't affect them.

Sure, they're going to lose some revenue from losing the Sonics. But if there's a time in the Sonics history to get off their bandwagon, this is it.

I also have been listening less and less lately. I still listen to Mitch but I can not stand Sandy so I have to turn it off sometimes. Softy gives me a headache, Groz likes to listen to himself talk too much, Gas man is good but I don't listen much from 3-7.

By the way, I called Mitch during "change the subject" and asked about the new evening host and before I could get the name out on the air they hung up on me. I guess they want to keep it a secret for now.

From today's column by Bill Virgin in the Seattle P-I:

KJR-AM (950) tonight unveils its new evening sports-talk team, "Elise and Ian Weeknights at Seven." The team consists of Ian Furness, a Seattle native who most recently was with a sports radio station in Portland, and Elise Woodward, who has worked in local television and radio as reporter and host (she's been color analyst on Storm games for six years and is a sideline reporter on Husky football broadcasts). The program airs 7-10 p.m. weeknights.

The need for a new evening show was created when David Locke departed to be the radio voice of the Sonics on KTTH-AM. KJR-AM says this is the first change in its regular lineup in eight years.
