KJR FM is KJR FM again

As I was scanning the dial today, I noticed KJR FM is now calling itself 95.7 KJR FM again.

Weren't they Oldies 95.7 just the other day?

I've caught them a few times in the last few weeks and "KJR-FM" was mentioned here and there.

"Oldies 95.7" sounded so generic.

And they should. KJR still has tremendous call letter heritage in Seattle, though with every passing year it becomes less and less. However, if they are targeting a 35-54 audience, this is a no-brainer. Perhaps there may be some cross-cume from KJR-AM, but wouldn't expect it to be very large.

Might be old school programming but I've always agreed with NOT using the term "Oldies" in conjunction with any format.

Very old news. It's been close to two months since they have rebranded as "KJR-FM". I agree, It sounds so much better than "Oldies 95-7".

True, 96.5 has had more changes than 95.7, but they both have quite an unstable history. Atleast 95.7 has been mostly a classic/oldies format for most of the past three decades. However, they can't seem to keep to one brand, that was my original point.

They may be taking a hint. I always said with Bob Rivers and Steve Slaton, they should go full blown classic rock or even move KKBW's format to 95.7. Just seems more natural.....

Now.....If only they can get Robin & Maynard back..........

Yes, KKBW deserves a full market signal. Does anyone have any recent numbers on them? I hear they are doing quite well, but the last time I heard they were at a 0.9, but the production guy I'm working with seemed to indicate that they were doing quite well, maybe doing even better than a 0.9. That would pull a 2.7 at least on a full market signal.

So far as I'm aware, KYYX was never AC, though...it was some variant of Top 40 from 1976 until at least the middle of 1981. At that point, "The New 93" was fully launched as a Top 40 station and pretty much blew KYYX out of the water, which triggered their shift over to new wave/alternative.

True, KYYX, even though led by the legendary Pat O'Day, never really caught on. Not sure what they were trying to do, they did offer an early version of "voice-tracking". And I credit them for bringing back many Seattle legends for a Hall of Fame Weekend, (circa 1979), including Larry Lujack, from Chicago fame. Yes, KPLZ, or KVI-FM previous, and KUBE eventually sent them retreating. But it wasn't a bad idea at the start. The truth is FM top40 was developed by KYYX and KVI-FM in the mid-70's, but the REAL truth is KOL-FM ran a top40 format in the early 70's, as a simulcast of KOL Am, and an automated version at night.
