KJSA GRANTED 50 KW

KJSA (1110/Mineral Wells) has been granted the 50,000 watt day/39,000 watt critical hours facility that was applied for back in November 2008. A fifth tower will be added for the new pattern(s).

KJSA, of course, remains a class D (daytimer) due to KFAB/Omaha.

And the upgrade has a big lobe pointed at Houston, home of co-channel KTEK. The 39kw critical hours pattern is going to give KTEK some grief...you can already hear KJSA underneath KTEK during critical hours with the current 20kw.

Wonder if the current KJSA transmitter can be cranked up to 50kw or do they need a new one (or additional power module) ?

Looks like all five towers are used for both signal patterns.

Oh Joy a 50kW Spanish Station...

Yeah, its not like spanish speakers make up a huge percentage of our population around here or anything. ::)

They do but... we already have PLENTY of stations that cator to them. and its not like many of them listen to AM anyway...

If you are correct, then market forces will prevail and some spanish language station somewhere on the dial will lose.

At any rate, there are plenty of English stations on the dial too- including multiple versions of several formats. So it isn't like this upgrade is going to deprive english speakers of anything. So wht is it to you?

Unless you just don't like brown folk who talk funny....

Like I've said before here, even though most of us agree that AM radio is clinically dead, there are still a lot of people sinking big dollars into upgrades around Dallas/Fort Worth. KNIT 1480 just got approval for a daytime upgrade to 50,000 watts. KZEE 1220 in Weatherford has a CP for a modest power increase and KHFX 1140 Cleburne has an application pending for an daytime increase from 5,000 to 25,000 watts.

There is, however, one case where an applicant apparently gave up on plans for a high-powered move-in. KTON 940 wanted to relocate from Belton to Lancaster as a 50,000 watt daytimer but got plenty of opposition, mainly from Citadel's WKY 930 in Oklahoma City. They've now filed for a slight increase in power (from 1,000 to 3,500 watts) and remain licensed to Belton.

Alas That Was my 666th post

It seems that most of these upgrades in one way or another have involved M & M Broadcasting's Gary Moss.

OK- there I agree with you. Thinning the herd might help with overall quality- for every demographic. =)

And M & M has another upgrade application that I didn't include in my prior post: KCLE 1460 Burleson is seeking an increase in daytime power from 5,000 to 12,000 watts, basically with the same directional pattern they use now. It's a tight fit, considering they're wedged in between 50,000 watt KTNO 1440 and KNIT 1480, which is upgrading to 50,000 watts. I'm sure that both of those stations are looking at that proposal closely and there are also a number of co- and first-adjacent stations that could file objections to the KCLE application as well.

How close in can you hear KJSA under KTEK. I am down in League City, within sight of the KTEK tower farm and within their very strong northbound lobe, so I'm too close to hear anything else on 1110.

You Shouldnt Hear KJSA anywhere near KTEK's pattern. KJSA has a good Null towards KTEK

Not to answer my own question, but you are incorrect. I got an unexpected chance tonight to hear KTEK from the east side of League City, well out of its main lobe, at around 8:15 tonight and KJSA was right there, very much present. I can imagine how those two butt heads way up north of Houston.

Hmm. You mustve been near KJSA's other lobe

I am just tired of DFW AM station because they are always "wedged" together. With KJSA's increase, isn't that just more inteference to KVCE?

Im not sure if 1110 can bleed into 1160. maybe if you are real close to one or the other.
1130 is sure gunna be hell now though.
