KJSR on 102.7?

I was headed south on hwy 169 today between Owasso and Tulsa and caught a mono signal (no stereo carrier, unless it truly was too weak for my radio to detect) on 102.7 playing "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet." I was waiting for an ID, but it faded before I got to Tulsa, so I hit seek...

...AND HIT 103.3 PLAYING "YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHING YET," at what I believe was the same place in the song.

I've not heard this happen before, and it doesn't appear to be any other 102.7 in Oklahoma: KJYO in OKC is current top-40 and the Bartlesville repeater is an NPR affiliate.

Was this some weird atmospheric / bleed-over thing, or...

What else could it be?

I didn't pick up 103.3 on 102.7. Could be your radio. If the problem continues, you should probably let one of your buddies at Cox know about it. Norm, Wayne or Steve could probably check into the problem. Could be a problem with the exciter.

You were on hwy 169 between Owasso & Tulsa Saturday afternoon? Honk next time, buddy! ;D

I can't see how it would be originating from their transmitter site as I was driving TOWARDS the site when it faded away... again, unless the atmosphere was doing some REALLY weird things...

I wondered if it could be a new LPFM in the area, or after I discovered it was (apparently) Star's programming, if a pirate might be rebroadcasting their signal. The stereo light not coming on is really unusual; my radio will indicate stereo even when the signal is weak enough that it has blended it completely to mono. Also, the fact that my radio stopped on it in local seek mode (less sensitive), yet it faded away in just a few miles (less than the length of the song) make me think local low power.

Or CRAZY atmospherics.

Could 103.3 HAVE a harmonic at 102.7?

I'm also going to check and see what Arkansas stations might be on 102.7... again, I want to clarify I did NOT hear an ID on 102.7, my seek stopped in it in the middle of the song and then faded to complete hiss before the song ended... so it could have been another station playing the song.

Needless to say, next time I'm between about 96th Street North & 56th Street north, I'm going to be scanning that part of the dial!

Weirdness...

Probably not a harmonic, more likely IF mixing, could have something to do with the airport nearby, as well. Chances are really really good that everything at KJSR's site is tip top.

I hadn't thought about the airport futzing things up; that makes more sense.

Several responses to this post seemed to suggest I was suggesting there was something wrong with Star's plant. NO. What I was experiencing makes that impossible. If it was originating from Star, it wouldn't not have faded out as I got CLOSER to their tower. It had to be a crazy bounce off a building / cloud or somebody repeating the signal.

I tried to pick it up around Owasso Sunday and the only thing I got was KJ-103, faintly, at 96th St N & Garnett, which is what I would expect.

This morning at 5am, I got NOTHING on 102.7 all the way from 116th Street North to I-44, with the exception of KJ again which was spotty until I got to about 11th & they had a brief rally for about a mile. :)

I keep wondering about why my local seek stopped on it, & why the stereo light didn't come on... Even KJ, which was fully blended to mono, had the stereo light lit. It also faded completely away faster than I'm used to an FM signal decaying when driving away from it.

I JUST DON'T KNOW! I suppose it doesn't matter; it was just so out of the ordinary...
