Saw on the KKSF thread about KJZY possibly picking up some rimshot listeners now that KKSF is gone and the poster was saying how horrible KJZY's playlist is. Actually, that small posted sample is not so good, but take a closer look at their playlist for a good 24 hours on yes.com. I am very impressed actually. Yeah they play some crap, but they mix in standards like Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett, some forgotten soft AC like Rita Coolidge, and some rarer smooth jazz songs that don't get BA airplay for years. It's actually a pretty darn good looking station so I give them credit where credit is due. Looks locally programmed too. I hope they do pick up some ex-KKSF folks. At least KJZY is making some effort here. KKSF wasn't in the later years, as is the case with practically every smooth jazz station in the final days. I like the cool little sprinkling of softer than soft AC tunes like Elton John and Rita Coolidge that regular AC stations don't play anymore. One of my favorite little college stations has a very similar filler format when no students are on the air. It's kind of a smooth jazz/soft AC mix.
http://kur.kutztown.edu/ is the college station in Pennsylvania I like. Note they only do the format part time so if it's not on when you tune in, try again when the schedule says "Cafe KUR Jazz."
http://www.kjzy.com/ is the rimshot San Francisco station I was just talking about.
Check them both out. This is how the format should evolve instead of what BA is doing.
