Alright, I want somebody to clear this up for me...who here remembers what KKEG in fayetteville was like in the late 70's - early 80's....Was it pure rock or a mix of top40/rock????

early 80s was top-40/rock. most (nearly all) of the music was still on vinyl. gotta love those old gates turntables with the stick-shift control!
kfay was playing country during the day, and on cable after sunset. i hated making sure those reels got rewound every 2 hours.

OK, Boxx, since you seem to have ben there in the early 80's. What became of Shelly Steel? I think I have the name right...

wow. i haven't heard that name since 1983.

i have no idea - i moved to chicago and what little i remember of fayetteburg was: the gazebo, norma jean's, overnights at kkeg, king pizza, brass monkey, jose's (chimmy-changa!), george's and some university or something where i was accused of attending classes. and all the wonderful women from out of state.

that, and when kkeg had the police literally remove the morning show at the time from the premesis - guy flipped out or something and i subbed for a while before the PD took over. i was young and just happy to be employed playing music, talking about it and gettting paid.

i'll look through any notes i can find and get back to you.

Didn't Shelly Steel do middays in 87 or 88? I went by there to drop off a tape and I think she was the one who I ended up talking to. Seemed really nice from what i can remember... Wasnt the studio up on stilts, or just a second floor entry way, or am i completely remembering this wrong??? lol

yeah, the studio was on the back of the building on the 2nd floor. kfay was on the other side by the parking lot. if someone was running up the back stairs on the outside of the building, and you were on the mic, you could hear it loud and clear on your radio. HA HA HA HA...good times. got busted a couple of times for having the pizza girls delivering things...'cause someone (the PD) heard the footsteps...the saturday night hotline calls were hilarious. should have recorded those. LOL

the reason i was told that kkeg's studio was where it was - so you could see if the tower lights were working from the windows when you were doing xmtr readings. um....okay.

i hated the fact that it was next to the GM's office, who would never learn my name. also - there was a relic of sorts (or the PD's threat) - an old carousel system shared space with the record library. a real dinosaur, all green and HUGE...just sitting there staring at you. overnights, i swear i heard noises coming from it. never checked to see if it was plugged in...LOL
