KKGO/KSUR Owner Saul Levine Profiled in Variety

The big difference between Saul and other small owners like Jerry Lee in Philadelphia is Saul has offspring who have followed him into the family business.

Jerry sold to Entercom when he decided to retire and had no plan for succession. That's a problem at any company like this.

In his world, radio will survive because his kids will see that it will. What happens after that is up in the air.

He lists his age at 71 on Match.com. Amazing Owner and I wouldn't be surprised if he himself lasts another 15 to 20 years!

Add a few years.

KBCA in LA went on the air in 1959 with the same ownership as today.

Were Sol Levine really 71, he would have been 11 when he filed for the license.

Even if he built the station right out of law school, he'd be in his early 90's at minimum, and the article says he is 92 which sounds right.

I thought everyone lies on Match.com.

I read that KSUR was going to add a well known radio personality on Sunday night any ideas on who it might be.

Let's review what we know so far about AM 1260;

When KSUR first signed on in March 2017, it was automated and sounded more like an internet station. In early to say spring 2018, the website was redesigned, DJ's began appearing in different dayparts, two weekend specialty shows with Dick Clark and a Saturday Night Disco Dance Party was added with Fred Missmen in charge. Dick Clark also got a third specialty show on Wednesdays from 6pm to 10 pm.

So I'd say KSUR went from an autopilot HD-2 channel to a low powered AM Oldies Station.

Larry Van Nuys Goes Full Circle and Jumps in the (K)Surf
(January 2, 2019) “Great Oldies are back on ‘L.A. Oldies’” is the station’s slogan. Now, K-Surf (KSUR) is bringing a familiar voice back to L.A. radio, as veteran personality Larry Van Nuys prepares to helm mornings starting Monday.
