KKGO-Question

They are now streaming on line and was wondering what kinda coverage and ratings the station has in L.A. I know they have a sister station in San Diego on 540 and simulcast the standards format. I'm a big fan of standards and would like to see the old team of Fabulous 690 move over to 1260 and 540. Any chance or thoughts? I'm in Atlanta and listen to a lot of CA. radio on line. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

They got a small share in Winter, well below a one share. The coverage is good in the San Fernando Valley, and gets woerse and worse as you go south. At night, it is pretty much an SFV signal, but does get a bit into the areas north of downtown. Overally, a horrible signal.

Hi,
KKGO comes in Here in Huntington Beach (Orange County)
I listen to them even at night.

Probably because you are right on the coast. They get no at home diary retuns from OC.

Hi,
I am about two and one half miles from the ocean.
Does there XESURF 540 signal get any diaries in Orange County?

Making a guess, XESURF got one to two diaries, and was 60% below the level needed to "show." KKGO was just below the show level, but we do not know if some XESUFT listeners write KKGO int he diary since this apparently gets mentioned on the air. In any case, the total listening level indicates about 4 to 5 total Orange Couthy diaries for both signals.

Hi,

I am told that KKGO is also on KMZT HD-2 channel. Problably the best use of an HD channel that I have seen so far.

John

Hi,
You are right.
KMZT HD-2 is being used for KKGO.
But will people really listen to standards on FM?
I will not.
They belong on am where they sound better.

Hi,

For old mono recordings from before stereo you are probaly right about sounding better on AM. For what can be done with modern technology and new recordings on FM, try Chuck Southcott on KKJZ Saturday and Sunday mornings.

John

Hi,
I will listen to KKJZ this weekend then.
I will be making a trip to signal hill.
It seems like that station got weaker affter the power upgrade.
(Maybe it is just me and where I live)
