KKIQ Adjusting?

It sounds like the KKIQ family of stations is adjusting a little hotter musically more Hot AC sounding. Have they ever tried Hot AC before because I always remember them as a pretty standard AC station. And is the KKIQ morning guy the same Elvis who used to be on the KYLD morning show several years back?

Yes, Elvis was a major part of the Doghouse on Wild. Consultant Dave Shakes ( formerly PD at KMEL and KIOI), is reshaping KKIQ to Hot AC.

So if Clear Channel ever buys KKIQ, maybe they will bring JV and Elvis back together. Simulcast their show on both WiLD and KKIQ!!!

Why would Clear Channel want to buy KKIQ? They're at their limit of radio stations they can own here, and besides, KKIQ is probably not for sale anyway!

In the 80s KKIQ was heavily dayparted playing Stevie B, Will to Power, Bobby Brown etc at night. In the 90s the station spent a good 5+ years hotter than K101.

KKIQ is now streaming a Lite Rock format online. It is programmed and voiced by long time KOIT APD/MD/DJ Julie Deppish (Julie Shannon). That allows KKIQ to be a bit hotter.
With more listening going online, this stream could be a problem for KOIT.

They should "adjust" management.

Why do you say that? I've known all 3 stations for years and years, and until the current ownership they never showed up in Arbitron. Now all 3 show up. Remember, these are all Class A stations. As I remember, the only Class A that consistently showed up in Arbitron was 92.7 in Alameda, and that was likely because its transmitter was/is right in the center of the market survey area.

It is rumored that Elvis is no longer with KKIQ as well as Dave Shakes being dismissed, and yes, a slight change of format is underway.

Elvis is gone with Kim Vestal doing mornings from her home. Dave Shakes is also gone.

Just one little problem......KKIQ's signal sucks....even with a repeater signal atop CSUH hayward campus into parts of east bay area.

Huh? What? KKIQ doesn't serve "parts of the East Bay." KKIQ serves the 580/680 Corridor through the Tri-Valley. Out here, it has an amazing signal, and tons of local advertisers, and there's hardly a retail establishment from Danville to Tracy that hasn't got its radio set to 101.7.

KKIQ's signal stinks beyond Castro Valley -- because it knows its role and super-serves its LOCAL audience.

What? None ever showed up until current management. That's just a lie. KKIS-FM in Concord had between a .8 and a 1 share for at least a year when it was owned by Diamond Broadcasting...I know, I was there and saw the Arbitron, David. Got a bonus for doing it, too.

Calling David Eduardo...

Walnut Creek 102.1 (KKIS-FM, KDFM, KKDV, whatever) may have shown up a few times here or there in Arbitron, but I don't remember it being consistent. This was an important selling point for lowly KWUN because they sold against 990 and 102.1 and KKIQ when potential clients asked about ratings, it was easy to say that the Diablo Valley was too small an area to show up in Arbitron. That's how I remembered the lack of ratings.

@David- I probably have the books in a box in the garage, but don't plan to go rifle through stuff to find them. I also had a card from the GM congratulating me which came with a bonus. I had them in the SF book for 5 straight books, which is over a year...until the owner's other properties caused a bankruptcy and everyone left. Your memory is correct on one thing...they fell out of the book after that for a while.
