KKJZ

I like it. I think the voice is Jose Rizo who does Bob Straight Ahead and Jazz On The Latin Side

It's an interesting decision. We should point out that KKJZ is managed by Saul Levine and his daughter. Saul ran KKGO as a jazz station in LA for many years. My take on this choice is that Bebop is more melodic and more rhythmic. Dizzy Gillespie and Salt Peanuts comes to mind. Whereas Cool Jazz is Miles Davis with long rambling solos. Dizzy wrote a book called "To Be or Not To Bop." That says it all. Anything this station does is OK in my book.

How about Milt Jackson...I have an album by him called "Be-Bop" it was recorded and released in the 1970s featuring 30s and 40s Be-Bop compositions...it's great !

Bebop is mainly post-big band jazz of the 40s and 50s. There was a revival in the 70s led in part by Dizzy and a group of young musicians. Milt Jackson was one of them. I think his 70s albums were on CTI. "Bag's Groove" was Milt's theme.

Cool jazz went on to influence the jazz-fusion movement. Weather Report and all of them were influenced by cool jazz.

Just checked out their website, it's great that Bebop is available there. We live at the North base of the Santa Monica Mts. and can not get a reliable HD signal from KKJZ, too bad an FM booster has not been established for the SFV. It certainly could be engineered to fit...As I understand it the normal FM translator/booster rules do not apply to 88.1 to 91.9 non comms...

I used to work in Woodland Hills near Calabasas and always wished there way a way to pick up a good signal inside a building it was even spotty with an outdoor antenna. What is strange is that where I live in the east end of Simi Valley I can pick it up in my house on my stereo with a set of rabbit ears.

Possibly "knife edge".
