What type of format is this supposed to be?

With the flip do you think Citadel will flip another NOLA station to active/modern rock?

For those of us who do remember the history, 106.7 the Gator was a jammin' country station! They couldn't have come out at a better time, country dance mixes were the hot new thing, and they did a good job with the format. Unfortunately, it wasn't too popular in NOLA... I don't think they cracked a 2 share 12+. But they were very aggressive, more so than the other "young country" stations of the time, and New Orleans just wasn't a redneck enough market for it.

Does anybody recall the Gator's call letters? Wasn't the oldies station KQLD?....

It was KGTR. It wasn't a rock and country hybrid. Some stations around the time used "Rockin' Country" as a slogan, but really didn't mix rock and country. A few did...KCWS "West 102" in Abilene TX really did mix Foreigner and Billy Ray Cyrus.

More recently, KIKK-FM 95.7 Houston in 2001 had a cool mix of country, Americana, and classic rock, but failed to win many listeners. WSM-FM 95.5 Nashville today mixes some southern rock with country. I would think that WSM-FM would be the model KKND would try if it indeed is going that way.

I'm thinking the same thing about that one.

Yep Rocking country 106.7 the Gator (around 1993 Huh, Tymer? and it lasted just under a year before a flip to smooth Jazz).... but if I remember, it was a station that was more styled after Top 40 than traditional country at the time and I think the traditional stations (WNOE and rimshot KCIL) were not doing as well as today in the Big Easy.
If I remember, it used the country dance remixes that were the rage at the time (as this was right at the peak of the acky-breaky line dance movement)and played top 40 country songs but speeded up more than normal.

Would something like this work? Not like I think, Depending upon how they go if rumor becomes true... been done before...WYPY (New Country 100.7) in Baton Rouge is trying new country and is placing third to WYNK (WYNK (pronounced wink) 101.5) and it's own sister station that won't play anything newer than 1989 (Country Ledgends 107.3 WTGE)

My question is, you've built up image over 9 years on KKND 106.7 with Alt. Rocker the end, Why blow it up unless you are moving it to a better signal (But putting rock on 100.3 would actually kill the listeners that moved to the Northshore and you figure there are a lot of listeners in the parish who moved north).... The better choice if you move would be 92.3 and flip diva to 106.7 or 100.3...

My guess would have been, unless you are making massive changes, I'd say they would have put country on 100.3... But then Citadel's done some weird things lately...

Where did you hear this?! I am interested 'cause I couldn't wait for The End to come back. I actually listened to them and I liked how they gave the audio a lot of compression (how rock stations SHOULD sound)! I got into many of today's new rock artists, too! I hate to see them go, but I do listen to country as well.

When 106.7 was "THE GATOR," they rocked. I remember the calls as "KGTR-FM Port Sulphur/New Orleans!" I also remember they had that monster truck show announcer as their station voice yelling "Non-Stop, Full-Tilt, Rockin' Counrty!" LOL

I have a small aircheck of them... with B-97's Allen "The Legend" Beebe as a DJ there! That was after he was "let go" from B-97 because they flipped talk! Yick!

My guess is put THE END on 92.3. That way New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Lafayette, as well as the north shore, river parishes, and bayou region all get a new rock station where it's needed.

Baton Rouge already has a DIVA on 103.3, so it's pointless to keep it on 92.3, where in BR, you've now got two DIVA'S.... Rediculous. And their 104-9 THE X or whatever has a signal that's something to be desired! Crappy.

Just my take on this situation.

Heard it was just confirmed by management at Citadel.

I Call Shenanigans!

I'm not sure that I believe this rumor. Sig & Vydra are all rock and roll. They aren't Donny & Marie!

Of course, I have no clue who Mike Shannon is.

Anyway, when are they coming back on? They wouldn't put all this out unless they were turning the tower on in a couple of days. I bet it'll be sometime between Monday and Wednesday.<P ID="signature">______________

Last time I went through Nashville I punched up 95.5 when I was 80 miles out and heard "Rhiannon" by Fleetwood Mac and wondered what station I had found, then they ID'd 995 the Wolf.... also heard Don Henley and John Mellencamp. That station has it correct. Sounds like what we did for a while in Biloxi at 92.5 WWXX back in 1993...

What is 1997, The latest song 107.3 in Baton Rouge will play or the year gator was on?

KGTR was on the 106.7 frequency from September 1993 - August 1994
In August of 1994 it was flipped to KLJZ that ran until September 1996 when the KKND callsign appeared.

Wouldn't that be a station over in Alabama? RFLA is correct with his dates. As sad as it was to lose the Gator, I really enjoyed Smooth Jazz 106.7 because they did a fantastic job with that format. Seems like there was a country 106.7 somewhere in Alabama. Could someone confirm this? WOOF maybe? Then there was a 106.9 WKMX that was top 40, right? Guess I should actually take a few minutes to research it...
