KKNG Jay Shankle Passed Away

Joel K. Shankle was born in Shamrock, Texas in 1943. His broadcast career included stints in Wichita Falls, Texas, Wichita, Kansas and the last ten years at Tyler Media. He was the host of KKNG's "Sunday Morning Gospel Show" and produced and co-hosted "Dr. Mary's Thrid Opinion", weekdays on Community Talk AM 890 KTLR. Jay is survived by his daughter - Amanda, grand daughter - Emerson, his son - Jayson, his brother, Gary Shankle, of Enid, Oklahoma as well as Gary's children: Clint Shankle and his fiancee, Jaci and also Amber Drennen, her husband Jimi and daughter, Mackenzie


A public memorial service will be conducted for Jay at 2 PM, Friday, April 17 at Vondell L. Smith and Son Mortuary located at 6934 S. Western. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, they would greatly appreciate a donation to the American Heart Association.

Wow. Very sad. Jay was a great morning show partner at KOMA in the late 80s. Great to work with and an very fun sense of humor. Godspeed, Jay!
 
Jay was a real radio talent and a genuinely nice guy. It was Jay and others like him that inspired me to a career in broadcasting. Thanks Jay for the memories!!
