KKOB PROGRAMMING CHANGES MONDAY

A

ABQTom

Guest
All these KKOB promo changes for Paul Harvey moving from 1pm to 945am? Hmmm.... Sounds like they need to clear somebody live at 106pm (currently Hannity begins at 115). My guess is that Big Ed is moving from KABQ to KKOB, given Ed's exceptional success in the market. Income discrepancy, sadly, is growing in Albuquerque between the very rich and the rest of us, and that's good for liberal talk ratings. 770 would be wise to increase their revenue with Big Ed instead of Hannity, if not this Monday, sometime very soon. Hannity can move to 1050 KTBL.

I've seen ABQTom's postings all over the place lately hyping the lefties and cracking on Boyce, Jennings, Frisch et al ... Are you a share holder in AirAmerica or what? Oh..wait...nevermind.

If KKOB bounces the one-two punch of Rush & Sean - they would be the first (and most likely the only) to do so. Give it some thought man.

Maybe this move (which is minor and god knows why we're spending so much time discussing it) was an edict from NYC? In the end, is it really that big of a deal? If they add Schultz, I'll eat crow. If they don't, how will ABQTom spin it?

ABQTom - seems like you've got a giant axe to grind against Citadel/ABC etc... What's has your chonies in a wad?

One thing for sure, Schultz on Citadel would give Clear Channel a run for their money, where Thom Hartmann is on the same slot.

Oh for goodness sakes! I've been called a Jones rep, and now a shareholder in Air America. All this boils down to is ratings and revenue. Jennings, Frisch, and Eeeds are all good guys maintaining a heritage station with an extraordinary reputation. Boyce is way too right wing and I suggested on another board that he consider Big Ed for his stations, and he won't agree because of his political persuasion.

Albuquerque is a good market for liberal talk because of income disparity the liberal format is getting record ratings on 1350. It's possible that Ed will move to 770 someday if 1350 keeps stealing listeners away.

Big Ed didn't go on 770 Monday but congrats to Pat Allen who gets to do another award winning, well produced newscast prior to Hannity. Actually my second guess is that they would have put Pat Frisch on to do a local show with a female sidekick.

-ABQtom, saying "Ratings and Revenue is what really matters!"

Just a little info for you in the last book KABQ's numbers were up do to longer TSL cume was only up about 2,000 while KTBL's cume was up over 8,000
kob's cume is flat or just donw slightly. KOB's rating weak link is 3p-7p

Don't Know. I wasn't slaming The Vil Man, I was just pointing out that he is the weakest of the 3 daytime shifts. His Cume is just as good as the rest of the day but his TSL is a lot less than the other two dayparts. I think it could be the clutter on the show way too many ads as they make up for the lack of inventory from 10-3, just as he gets going its ooops here comes a seven minute break plus traffic so between news spots and traffic he is on for less than 30 minutes out of the hour. I would suggest charge More per spot and play only 4 minutes a break and he comes across as grumpy most of the time I would say cheer up just a bit. Folks on the way home want to forget about their day and if you sound grumpy they will punch the button and that is why I feel his TSL is down. Bob Clark has a brightness(as in not grumpy noat as in smarter) that Jim lacks. Let me know if I am anywhere close

If there's anyone on who sounds "grumpy" afternoons it's Randi Rhodes - I'll take Jim to Randi any day. I can't stand Randi (along with most air america hosts), but Stephanie Miller (Jones) is hilarious.

How about adding more local news afternoons, with Pat Allen with Laura McCallum?

I agree Rhandi Rhodes beats out Vil on the grumpy meter. You can never go wrong with good local news it has to be more than rip and read.

Remember that Citadel = ABC after the merger, including the ABC Radio Networks, so it is hard to imagine that KKOB, a Citadel/ABC station, would drop the clearance of the ABC Hannity program in favor of a Jones product. I'd like to hear KKOB play all three hours of Hannity until 4 PM, but KKOB could not give up the local inventory the 3 PM - 4 PM hour creates for them. I wonder where they are clearing the commercials from the last hour of Hannity - 1050 perhaps?

Personally I wish that KKOB would just play a news/weather/traffic format during afternoon drivetime. But that's just my thought whenever traffic on the 7's is slightly delayed, as driving from here at the station to the Northeast Heights gets hectic sometimes!

I hadn't thought about the ABC-Citadel merger....and dropping an ABC product....

As for drivetime, it would be nice to have more local news - from *BOTH* Pat Allen and Laura McCallum, both award winning newscasters....

How about local news on 1050 KTBL also???

Guys, putting live/local news on 1050 KTBL is not going to happen. It's a clearing house and that's all it will ever be. The signal is sub-par at best and investing real time & energy would not be worth Citadel's time.

Those guys are keeping their eye(s) on the prize - which as we all know is 770.

Concentrate on the signal that matters - why spin your wheels on a station that can't pull a 2 share?

Oh...and by the way... drop the southpaw predictions. Won't happen. Not on KOB anyway.

I guess it's fun for blog-fodder, but it's pointless.

LOL

how about moving the programming "closer to the center" of the spectrum, then, since 770 is far right wing....1050, after all, is "Talk, Business, Life."

Michael Medved *LIVE* on 1050 NOON - 3p

replace Glenn Beck with Jerry Doyle 3p - 6p

broadcast all three hours of Rollye James *LIVE* 7p - 10p (??)

cancel Dr. Laura

cancel Neal Boortz

add Clark Howard *LIVE* 9A-NOON

add Dr. Joy Browne *LIVE* 6A-9A (??)

Your suggestion of : "closer to the center" with " Michael Medved *LIVE* on 1050 NOON - 3p replace Glenn Beck with Jerry Doyle 3p - 6p broadcast all three hours of Rollye James *LIVE* 7p - 10p (??) cancel Dr. Laura cancel Neal Boortz add Clark Howard *LIVE* 9A-NOON add Dr. Joy Browne *LIVE* 6A-9A (??)

With that lineup you're no "closer to center"... you're actually closer to flipping to spanish oldies...

You don't listen to the programs, since Neal Boortz and Glenn Beck are FAR FAR RIGHT. I deleted BOTH of them from my proposed schedule, and also didn't include Laura Ingraham. Both 770 and 1050 will ultimately have to moderate their programming as the market will inevitably expand in population and become more liberal.
The record ratings of KABQ for Spring 2006 already prove that people are fed up with the local, state, and national governmental officials.
We are watching Albuquerque very carefully for the relationship between rapidly changing demographics and ratings of both conservative and liberal stations.

You don't need to get 50% of the population to win, this is not an election. Serve the core and serve it well. Get 4 percent and you win get 7 and your God.

KKOB gets 7
KFI gets 4
KABC get 2

Record KABC ratings? For the stick? For the market? What does "record ratings" mean? And how does that prove the point you are trying to make?

Thank you! When I saw the OP this is what came to mind. Hannity ALREADY MOVED from 1050 to 770; remember Dr. Laura? The switch sent his cume up practically ten-fold.

Ed Schultz, although the most widely listenable among the listeners, is not going anywhere. He should be happy he's on 1350, unlike some many other markets bouncing the format off the air. Nobody cares about income disparity; they care about American Idol, boozing, their son's football game, etc. Even though the conservative audience of 770 wouldn't care about the topic. the 10 people who are aware and do care are already listening to 1350.

"Ed Schultz, although the most widely listenable among the listeners, is not going anywhere."

.....says who? his ratings have been going up faster than any other nationally syndicated liberal host, tied with Bill O'Reilly according to Talkers magazine, and beating Hannity in many local markets.

"He should be happy he's on 1350, unlike some many other markets bouncing the format off the air."

You guys always refer to it as "THE FORMAT." People who do affiliate relations laugh at this, having NO IDEA what "THE FORMAT" means. They sell to ANY station who wants their show, whether they are liberal, conservative, or a mix.

" Nobody cares about income disparity"

What I meant is that Liberal talk hosts seem to do better in areas with higher income disparity - where there is a greater gap between the rich and the poor. Albuquerque and Santa Fe have some of the highest scores in the nation.
