KKSF "Sunday Morning Oasis" >> Why couldn't this format work full time?

This is what I really want a station to sound like....

http://www.kksf.com/main.html (then click on "listen live")

The show is on Sunday mornings 10am - 1pm est (7am-10pm pst) and at 1 pm I quickly turn it off untill 10 am the following Sunday.

I'm surprised to see KKSF still carrying this program as they have completely ruined the rest of the week with Broadcrap Architecture and their horrible smooth jazz mix.

LOL I see the ratings for KKSF crashing down while carrying the inferior BA product...just a matter of time before this station kicks the dust. They were at their peak when owned by Brown Broadcasting and were ruined when sold to Clear Channel. Typical.

5. Yanni - Quiet Man
6. Genuine - Wandering Around, Lost
7. Palomino Duck - Coming Home
8. Tangerine Dream - Love On A Real Train
9. Jose Padilla - Dynamic Earth
10. Philippe Saisse - Prelude

Re: KKSF "Sunday Morning Oasis" >> Why couldn't this format work full time?

Appears I'm talking to myself here..............but someone out there's gotta be reading my new "blog" :p

Anyhow, looks like I called another one right about KKSF and declining ratings with these hideous new numbers they just released today (sorry don't have the date for these, probably the period ending on 9/30).....man I'm like a prophet with this stuff!!! ;D

Clear Channel's KKSF/San Francisco slips 2.7-2.5 12+ and ranks 17th overall (10th among English-language music stations). The heritage outlet ranks tied for 20th 25-54 (14th among English-language music stations) and 11th 35-64 (7th in non-N/T English-language properties).

KKSF's 12+ cume dipped from 642,900 in August to 632,900.

YES, THE MAGIC OF BA IS DESTROYING THIS ONCE GREAT STATION. BUT IN A PERVERSE WAY I'M TRULY HAPPY BECAUSE IT SHOWS BA IS NOT WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT TO HEAR.... A BAD SMOOTH JAZZ MIX OF A/C JUNK AND EVEN WORSE PERSONALITIES. I'LL MISS THE SUNDAY MORNING OASIS BUT WTF I'LL JUST LISTEN TO MY OWN CD'S.

THANKS, ALLEN K. > YOU'RE A FRICKIN' GENIUS NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO WITH SUNDAY MORNING OASIS 24/7 OR BECOME ANOTHER ALL DAY SPORTS TALKER lol!@!!

Re: KKSF "Sunday Morning Oasis" >> Why couldn't this format work full time?

Hey majaman. I will definitely check out that program. I used to love KKSF. I've taken three trips to California's wine country, and a couple other trips to San Francisco on business over the years, and it was the first thing I'd crank up in the rental convertible! Sorry to hear it has gone the way of BA. Unfortunately my former Ocean City, MD love WQJZ 97.1 has followed suit, but I guess "bad" contemporary jazz is better than none at all. I'll probably still tune it in when I take trips to the beach, because the alternatives down there are worse. But it's NOTHING like Jones for sure.

BTW, I was able to track down Checkfield's CDs on gemm.com. I am not sure if you are aware of it, but it is a tremendous online resource for hard-to-find, OOP LPs, tapes, and CDs, and I have been using it for well over 15 years.

Take care,

Chris

Re: KKSF "Sunday Morning Oasis" >> Why couldn't this format work full time?

Hey Chris...hey, we've spoken before!! ;D

I first heard KKSF back in September of 1993 on a trip out to California...my beloved WCDJ in Boston just went off the air...but wow....I wanted to move to SF just to hear KKSF all of the time.... ;)

What a station!

I first heard Craig Chaquico that month and went on a CD shopping spree. Acoustic Highway, KKSF samplers...other great stuff I heard all week....Peter White...Promenade...again listening to those tunes brings me back....

Another great CD they were playing during that time...Oystein Sevag/Link. Listened to KTWV The Wave as well as KIFM on that trip. But KKSF made the lasting impact with me. Blake Lawrence was even there at that time.

Just sensational music and programming. Those stations just had this soothing effect...they waited until the song was completely finished....then silence...then nice relaxing personalities like Maria Lopez "After Dark"...not like this BA junk where I hear Kenny G sounding like something on a high school radio station...

Smooth Jazz radio is forever ruined (by crap like Broadcast Architecture) , but ...yes....check out the Sunday Morning Oasis...it will bring you back to those great times.

Again, I have nothing to gain by promoting this show. Just want to get the word out on some wonderful music still being played on the radio. Just make sure you leave some room for me to log in!! 8)

Re: KKSF "Sunday Morning Oasis" >> Why couldn't this format work full time?

Yes, we have spoken before. You're Mark, right? ;)

I too own a couple of KKSF's CD Samplers. One in particular I love is the one with the radio edit of Gota's "Let's Get Started," which is about impossible to find on CD. The San Diego jazz station (The Breeze?) was another great station back in the day. Not sure what happens to the genre from here, as far as radio is concerned (although it will probably continue to lead slowly to certain death). The artists will move on, but you'll have to work harder to find and enjoy their music. I haven't tuned to WQJZ since October 1, and other than my own station which I listen to at work (once again, purely a hobby ;D), I know of very few alternatives out there that consistently play the kind of contemporary jazz I want to hear. It is truly a shame. Another thing that concerns me is that I haven't checked out this board in a week, and there were only 3 or so new posts since last week. I just get the feeling that guys like you, DD, and myself are fewer in number than I originally thought, which perhaps is another explanation for the slow but steady death of Smooth Jazz on radio. :'( Well, I will continue carry the torch on my fledgling outlet. This music is in my blood, and there is nothing like the feeling of sharing your passion with others.
