Hello

What's happening at KKTX? Did they change their format to Active Rock or something?? According to www.yes.com they changed their music from classic rock to more active rock, what's the deal?

Yes, a bit more active. Now "The Rock of East Texas." Still a lot of classic rock, but with a harder edge, and more new artists mixed in.

Sounds pretty good so far.

Its a big improvement, the station has been too stagnant and there's been a real need for an active/mainstream rocker here for over a decade. I heard 96-X play a new track by Rush early this morning.

Looks like Classic Rock is following the same path as Oldies with KZPS and Houston's KIOU dropping it.

To quote "Laugh-In"'s Arte Johnson..."Verrry interesting!" I could maybe see 96X evolving over the next few months or whatever into the mainstream/active rocker the market's been needing for over a decade and a half. As I've said before, the classic rock audience isn't getting any younger, not to mention the fact that 96 took one hell of a shellacking when Jack came on the scene.

My guess is after the novelty of Jack wears off(and trust me, it will!)99.3 will pick up where 96X left off and grab the classic rock format, leaving 96 to concentrate on '90's and today. Just my 2 cents.

Unfortunately, they are still playing Free Bird 3 times a day.

So does 98.1 Rocks and 99-X.. except they play it 2 times a day.

I agree, and I wouldn't mind this happening. Jack is another "Fad Format" like Jammin' Oldies where the ratings go up for awhile, and when the audience burns out on the same 800 songs the ratings fall quick. It's going to be interesting how the old classic rock fans who love their Skynard and Fleetwood Mac accept the newer music.
