KKUS Not So Classic Anymore?

Was in Tyler today for a family reunion (no jokes needed...it was a great time with the paternal family). I listened to KKUS and noticed their playlist seems to skew heavy to 90s country hits. WTH?

Safe to say this "Ranch" isn't what it used to be.

That seems to be the case. The only time real Classic Country is on the air is when Tom Perryman is on the air. On the other hand, you have to admit that the "Garth Brooks" era of country music was very popular.

90s Country is 20-25 years ago. People who came into country with the Class of 89 are pushin' 50.

Garth Brooks, George Strait, Reba McEntire, and Vince Gill are already in the Hall of Fame. I expect Alan Jackson will get in next year.

Classic Hits stations are mainly 80s-90s. So Classic Country is aiming at that same era.

Both of you raise very valid points. Among other things, they make me realize I'm getting old. LOL

In all seriousness....it struck me as foreign to hear so much 90s in the rotation considering I knew what it was previously and really enjoyed it.

Sadly, there's nothing even close to it OTA here in Dallas. Makes me miss East Texas and good radio. Thankfully, I can stream. In fact, I was streaming KDOK at the funeral home today. No, it wasn't on the overhead system. It was at my desk.

First you get old, and then you die. Classic country in a funeral home. Insert joke here.

Roger Miller was de-composing? Terrible. Sorry.

I've been sampling KKUS via streaming the past two nights and I've got to say that even with the occasional '90s hit, it's still a great-sounding classic country station. It certainly doesn't skew heavily '90s during the hours I've been listening. Maybe some folks won't like Eddy Arnold into Patty Loveless into Alabama into Willie Nelson into the Forester Sisters, but as someone who listened to and enjoyed just about all country from the early '70s until the late '90s, this station is just what I'm looking for. The playlist seems to go a bit deeper than iHeart's classic country format that I get here in Connecticut on WWYZ-HD2 -- and iHeart DOES skew '90s, and even plays quite a bit of '00s country.

It may be different after the sun goes down. I was listening between 12N-6P and it seemed as though every other or third song was 90s.

Brought back memories of being at KNUE "back in the day". LOL
