KKVI is illegal

So to append to the 95.9 thread - I've spent the weekend out hunting down KKVI. Only to determine there is no such thing. The Garland k240ds translator is still (again?) acting like it's own radio station. It is not translating anything. I've put together a list of the video documentation I have. For some reason, the AVI files are messed up. If you use VLC player, it'll ask to "repair" the files, which takes mere seconds, then you can view it with no problems.

Any questions? feel free to ask. If I don't have the answers, I'll try to find them.

I've hosted the avi files on my own site. I'm somewhat paranoid that it won't have the bandwidth to serve everyone on here who's wanting to view it. Hopefully it won't crash. :) Please be patient, some of the video files are 40-50 meg.

Hell yes, it's illegal. So what's stopping the FCC from shutting them down, are they afraid of busting a purported "religious" operation?

Hello, I found records on KKVI on REC Broadcast Query. I think they are legal but I like to know if main station in Overland, TX is broadcasting at main tower/transmitter site. If the station KKVI Brashear , TX is not broadcast signal then Garland, TX translator is illegal. You have to have main transmitter running to have a distant translator. If this is right....We need to call Dallas FCC office today. Hope this information helps. I hate that Spanish S____t on 95.9 in Garland. I like to hear no station in North Dallas/Garland area...I like to hear The Ranch 95.9 West of Ft. Worth.

Dan the MAN!!
The North Texas Radio MAN!!!

Dan did you watch any of the videos I posted? You'd find all those answers there. No. There IS no KKVI. No tower, No antenna, No carrier on that frequency - no ID. Nothing. It doesn't exist. It's just a front. Period.

jd: I'm not going to claim to know Spanish, but the kkvi website said it is "HCCN SPANISH CHRISTIAN NETWORK". The IDs that I heard, it sounded like it was saying "La Famillia" or I assume "the family". I don't know where or how they're getting the feed, but I assume the Spanish folks are paying them for the airtime. It IS some sort of network feed, as at the end of each our, they said "Gracias, Adios" - as if to say "if you're leaving us after this hour, thanks and goodbye". Last night they were originating an hour of black gospel type music locally from the school in Garland. I drove up and talked to the two folks who were in there. They were from some local church - and it sounded like they just "bought" an hour of airtime every Sunday evening.

Interesting... this morning was the first in recent memory that I was able to receive KFWR in eastern Tarrant County, instead of K240DS. I was unable to pick up K240DS at all, even in KFWR's shadows. Perhaps they've been reading this thread... perhaps they think if they lay low for a while this too shall pass?

Their power output may not have been legal, but the readings I took on them had them approximately the same as what their license was for. Power output is the least of their problems :)

Ironically, I couldn't hear them downtown Dallas this morning either, however a coworker in Rockwall verified they ARE still transmitting. Maybe just conditions this morning?

For the hell of it, i called the # with a 465 area code on KKVI's website. The guy who answered threatened to sue me for "breaking into a school"... Also, he said that the people on this board "need to do something productive and stop going around playing radio detective"... This guy sounds VERY professional. He also explained that they have "everything that's needed" to remain on the air legally.

"Breaking into a school"? LOL. Nobody broke into anything. I'm sure if he has everything he needs, he doesn't need to freak out that "we" don't have lives. Right?? :) Did you ask to see his license? His public file? Did you ask him how he's rebroadcasting the KKVI signal?

But the guy SAID he was LEGAL?!?! Why on EARTH would he shut down if he's not breaking any laws? Think of ALL that money he's losing! Wonder how much his transmitter lease is per month??

There's your ace in the hole. Go to the station's office and ask to see
their public file. If they refuse your request, say "what public file?," or
any other grief from these pirates (so sue me, pirate! ;D), report 'em to
Uncle Charlie.

It was about 2 years ago that our conversations started on here about this station. At the time it was running some english language christian / pop programming. They clearly said their studios were in Downtown Garland and rarely mention anything about a main station out in east texas.

If a few little questions here now caused him to pull the plug, one wonders what the FCC did this time that they couldn't wouldn't do last time.

Xtian Radio gets away with a lot of sh*t..just like Xtion TV.

People don't realize that WE all pay for the massive tax cuts and benefits they get.

HCCN used to lease time on KMNY-1360. They took the worthless (910 watts) overnight hours starting in Sept 2006, and stayed there until March 2008 or so. After that, it was the mixed-up era of BizRadio here/BizRadio gone, and Rational Radio at night vs 24 hrs a day. Now if there's a connection remaining between HCCN and MRBI's 540 AM (sister to 1360,) I don't know about it. 540, to my knowledge, has had the same lessee for the last 4 years or more, and I have no idea who the organization is.
