KKWD goes back to Citadel

It looks like Citadel gets to take Wild back from the Last Bastard Trust due to "Arbitron market defination changes". Appearently this market can have groups up to 8 now. I just read it at All Access.

Sure encourages competition and diversity in the marketplace, doesn't it?

::)

Excellent news!! Congrats to Ronnie and the gang! I wonder if this means they'll ax the overnight jocks and go back to full automation after 2am? Ronnie is one of the best at developing new talent, and it would sure be a shame to see all of the newbies gone in favor of the almighty dollar.

I would guess they would be more able not less able to keep the talent now because the station now at least has more certainty. Ronnie is a hell of a good guy. I wish them the best. I just wished a few more players could have a chance at station ownership around here. Having everything locked by 4 big players leads to substandard programming like cutting the night guys.

From what I've heard, ther overnighters were hired only because they had to legally for meter readings. Now that they don't have to have someone there anymore, will they be kept? Citadel keeps pretty tight purse strings so I wouldn't be surprised if they let them go. I did hear one of them one night as I flipped channels drivin through town. I think his name was sam? or shawn? He didn't sound like he fit the format at all. He sounded very forced. I hope he finds something else that fits him and I wish him well.

Is KKWD's transmitter that unreliable? Meter readings on FM's haven't been required for over 10 years now beyond that you have to take enough to catch any transmitter error and you have to take enough to prove your transmitter is reliable. Most stations that don't use automated transmitter equipment can get away with one reading per weekday.

I hope Citadel does something to impove the station because at this point, it is pathetic.

I bet it will improve. It's hard to run a good ship when all the little rats are running off the ship anticiating it going off into the drink. Now that there is more certainty to the continuance of the station and format, I'd think spirits would be better over there.

Good luck Ronnie and crew. Hopefully you've rode out the storm.

Well now that Citadel has KKWD back, it's shame that they there not on 98.1 instead of 104.9 to take advantage of the full power signal instead of the 6kw on 104.9.

The Sports Urninal is a cash cow. Wild is not and will not ever have the potential to make more than the Urninal. I don't see them moving the Urninal off of 98.1. It's found it's perminent home. I would think if anything were to happen the'd split the programming on WWLS-FM and WWLS-AM at some point (maybe moving WKY's programming to 640 and doing something else with WKY).

Or then again, maybe they could hire Jimmy Hill back and strap a Marti to his back where he could run around all of Norman finding out what the coach had for breakfast and other very important matters around the campus and broacast it live on 640. The could then rename the station Hill-AM, Talking about what Jimmy Hill wants to talk about. Heck, even the road to the transmitter out there has his name on it. :)

Jimmy Hill Super Duper Sooner Reporter!!!! I just have to know the WWLS guys were really happy the day THAT guy got out of their life. LOL!

Well I have to go now. Time for dinner down at Buger King..

It would be nice if Citadel were to split the programming of 640 & 98.1 eventually and put most of the ESPN mandated programming on 640, simulcasting at other times, blah blah blah. Then flip WKY to the "true oldies" format, and air some sports p2p in primetime, as a backup/overflow, etc.
