According to www.allaccess.com KKXT has named Mark Ahbuzzahab P/D. He's currently at KGSR (Austin) and he starts later this month. Any thoughts on this.

Given Abuzzahab's body of work (including Denver's KBCO and 97-X - "BAM! The Future Of Rock N' Roll" in Cincinnati), I think it's safe to say that the #kxtfail hashtag will be retired for quite some time.

As many are aware KGSR had to dumb down to combat ratings erosion and there was a public outcry that they had sold out and gone too mainstream. KGSR, remember, is a commercial station and an Austin institution but in this case the reverse may need to happen in Dallas. People aren't likely to pledge money for mediocre programming that's available elsewhere on the dial.

The other day KXT played a Peter Frampton song. If that kind of stuff, along with crispy critters akin to "Hotel California," let's say, is on their playlist the new PD really has some serious work to do.

Hopefully this will bring positive change. It would be nice to hear some deeper classic cuts, new music that is unplayed on other stations, and more local artists.

Well, the KGSR playlist doesn't that different from kxt... I like what I am hearing in kxt there days!

Agreed. It isn't that much different from KGSR. Fortunately, KXT plays some local artists and a bit less of the commercial, worn out stuff. I personally hope to never hear that Mighty Might Bosstones song played on KXT ;)

Maybe the new guy's influence is being felt already. At 11:35 AM I heard a track from "The Best of Marcel Marceau". Or maybe it was John Cage's 4:33.

gc, they posted on FB that they had an A/C failure at the transmitter that took them off air for a bit. All seems to be OK now.

Of course, I kid.
For all the criticism I give KXT, obviously I'm checking them out.
I really want this station to succeed. I understand they don't exist to cater to my specific taste in music. I just wish they would back off the compression and find tunes that have more musical (and less commercial) merit.
I loved KGSR back in the day, even though they went heavy on mediocre singer-songwriter pap. I was disappointed when they took a turn towards the 'Pop Hit' direction. (In my view, the 'pop-hit' industry is corrupt.) Still, I was regularly amazed by the things Jody Denberg, Kevin Connor, Sandy, Brian et-al came up with.
So, to all the fans of KXT, and the people who work there, I apologise for my snark.
I wish them many years of excellent broadcasting to come.
