KLAA dedicated programming to Nick Adenhart

KLAA AM 830 The Angels owned station is dedicating it's programming all day to the tragic death of rookie pitcher Nick Adenhart. His life was cut short last night at the intersection of Orangethorpe Ave. and Lemon St. in Fullerton when Andrew Thomas Gallo of Riverside ( also 22 years old) ran the red light while driving under the influence and then fled the scene. He was eventually taken into custody. Two other people died as well. R.I.P Nick & others.

I've been listening most of the day. My condolences to Nick's family -- his father flew out from the east coast (Maryland?) to see his son pitch a great 6 innings of shutout ball last night. Very tragic and as an Angels fan, I am heartbroken.

My condolences also go out to the other two victims of this senseless tragedy.

On the radio side note, I first heard about this on KFI at around 8:05 when Gary Hoffman (I think) broke in with the confirmed report from TMZ that Adenhart was indeed killed in the accident.

After that I immediately tuned in to KLAA and about 10 minutes later Roger Lodge and Dave Smith broke the news as well. I think it took a while longer before KLAC and KSPN had any news on it.

I lived in St. Louis for 30 years, and remember how it was when Daryl Kile died in 2002, and then we lost another young pitcher in Josh Hancock a few years later.

It's hard to remember when we are used to seeing these guys as stars, and making huge amounts of money, that they are still human beings. I hope these Angels are able to hang in the way our Cardinals did. I've always been a fan of Mike Scioscia; his biggest challenge in his career will be guiding his players through.

Best wishes to the Angels and their fans from Sacramento...

The way I originally understood the thread title, I thought it was like:

"The following presentation of Rusty Humphries is dedicated in loving memory of Nick Adenhart..."

But all joking aside... Very tragic story, and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
