KLAA | KSPN | ESPN Association

KLAA is dumping (thankfully) most of their weekday infomercials and adding programming from ESPN in early AM, mid-day, and early afternoon effective Monday, April 5.

KSPN will be picking up 60 selected Angels games. That will help in northern LA County where KLAA's signal on 830 is unlistenable, especially after sundown.

The two changes I am not happy to see are the condensing of "The Drive" to just one hour at 5p, and the removal of Doug Stephan for Mike & Mike. M&M are already heard on 710 and will now be simulcast on 830.

The 710 signal is not exactly gangbusters to the north at night.

Thank goodness and good riddance to the crappy drunk driving show.

I'm just trying to figure out the point of this...it's not like KLAA had to worry about ratings or revenue. They are owned by the Halos! Essentially, we are going to have a simulcast of ESPN Radio among two stations?! We aren't in Iowa!

True - but we're not in El Centro either and KLAA was the hands down winner for "worst small market sounding format licensed in a major market." Agreed, it is pointless to have two stations with somewhat overlapping signals repeating the same nationally syndicated crap - but there you go. The fact that they are owned by the team and the team's only interest is getting their games on the air without paying rights fees means the rest of the broadcast day can suck and because there aren't any radio people in charge - enjoy the mediocrity. Who buys a station for a team that purports to represent L.A. and doesn't realize that it doesn't even cover the market at night when a majority of games are played?

I don't know how you guys can talk about "repeating" when the only program both stations air (besides some Angels games/pre and post game Angels games) is "Mike & Mike" in the early AM. Check your facts.

We are talking about the northern part of the LA metro... 710 has a fine signal in the SFV and the area of the LA Basin north of downtown. That's what 830 does not cover.

The part of the LA market that is in the High Desert is such a small percentage of the population it really does not matter for a programming decision. 710 adds maybe 4.5 million persons to the usable signal coverage at night.

Yeah, you actually left out "All Night with Jason Smith" as well as "Sportscenter AM". So much for checking facts, huh?
