KLAK

How is KLAK doing since moving to Collin County? I enjoy the station, just wish the signal was better in Dallas. Going north the signal is loud and clear even in Oklahoma.

Its been at least a couple of years, they are still selling commercials, they still have local announcers. It is a hint of localism in a jungle of corporate mediocrity. They even managed to afford HD, but don't have HD-2. I doubt they show up in any ratings, but they must be making money.

Given their tower location, I am not surprised they are making it into Oklahoma. They really are a Collin County station, they are in pretty bad shape even around the High Five. Constant interference from the 97.5 in Waco. I haven't heard the Calvary Chapel translator in downtown Dallas lately - are they still there? That would ultimately finish them off in Dallas county.

My understanding of KLAK is they are primarily trying to serve Collin. I guess it's working for them, since they are still on. More power to them.

I tune in KJIM 1500 from Sherman-Denison for the same reason. It's a nice breather during the long commute.

I remember when KLAK's tower was near Durant. I would tune them in after I lost the Dallas stations on my way up 75. If I remember correctly they used to call themselves K-LAKE, but it sounds like they have been using their call letters lately.

Anyone ever check out that college station in Durant on 91.9? Wow, a college station that can relate to the music tastes of the students. Who would have thought?? I really don't understand why there aren't more college radio stations like that. I dunno, maybe there are a bunch more like it and I just don't know about it. I get KSSU 91.9 from about Oklahoma to Atoka.

That thing is all the way in Durant? They peel paint in Plano - there is enough signal on my HDT-1 to overcome interference from KVTT! But wait a minute - aren't we listening to first adjacents against "little1's" rules???? We shouldn't bother with those first adjacents, no matter how good they are!!! That goes for KTCU listeners in Dallas, and KEOM listeners in Ft. Worth, too - it should be outlawed to listen to first adjacents. It doesn't fit in with the plans of iBiquity executives to jam the dial for their own financial gain.

It wouldn't surprise me the least if the college and high school stations pass on HD completely. It's a waste of money for those folks.
