KLAY 106.1 Progressive Years

Hey Guys:

Would anybody know when KLAY 106.1 started there Progressive Rock Format?

-first part time?

-then full time?

I do know that KLAY Started Progressive Rock part time from 6pm-6am and had the rest of the time Beautiful Music. Then sometime in the early 70's went 24/7.

Thanks for your help guys.

Hey Guys:

I got some new info on KLAY FM. It went Progressive Rock full time in 1971 after KISW went on Monday February 15, 1971 and KOL-FM went 24 hours on Saturday February 20, 1971 at 9am. Would anybody remember when in 1971 this happened?

Thanks T.J.

Hey Guys:

Got new info:

KLAY 106.1 Started playing Progressive Rock on May 1, 1972 from 9:30pm-6am With the rest of the time Beautiful Music.

The yearbook 1973 (which has the format listed as Progressive) data is good till October 15, 1972 so by October 1972 KLAY was Progressive Rock 24/7.

I think KLAY went Progressive Rock full time somewhere between June and September of 1972.

Any feedback guys?

Thanks
T.J.

That's a neat link. I actually meet TWR when he bought KQIN. My dad helped out with Engineering with that station and I did too when I graduated from Vashon High School. About 5 years ago I managed one of the Bar's on Vashon that was purchased by the owners of Jazz Bones Tacoma, as a favor for two years. Running the bar was the first time I ever really wanted to replace people with Audio Vault, if Audio Vault could mix drinks.

I was told that Jazz Bones location at 2803 6th Ave, was the home of a radio station studio for a while. Any one know if this is true and who was there. The remains of a small tower base are still on the roof, maybe for an STL?
