KLBJ-AM on 2 "GREAT" frequencies

Really, is there any need for KLBJ to say much about 99.7 except for legal IDs? I heard the slogan about it the other day. If 99.7 could reach out more, I could see them saying that.

Yes...it's called "branding"...and reminder for AM listeners that they now don't have to put up
with noise and static....

AM is becoming uncommon and most people like and use FM a lot more than AM. Austin is a big city, but 99.7's signal is reachable over a big part of it. Maybe not the whole thing, but it's still worth advertising in my oppinion.

Well daytime you can pick up KLBJ-AM all the way to Victoria, but at night you'll be lucky to get it 30-40 miles out.

The reason they're promoting 99.7 is because so many people in the money demo either tune into AM rarely or barely know it exists. The average listener doesn't know what a translator is and won't care that it's 250 watts. They'll just think it's a weak station when they get outside of its coverage area and can still hear other Austin FM's.

I heard that the old KCLT in Lockhart-- a 250-watt daytimer-- used to say it broadcast with 250,000 milliwatts of power. Technically that's true since a milliwatt is 1/1000 of a watt.

They were probably trying to make it sound more powerful and bigger to the average listener. 250000 is a bigger number than 250.
