KLCK 98.9 Turning to FM Sports

I kinda liked Click, but admittedly have not listened to them for over a year, as I am out of town. Not enough interest to listen on-line.

I also like KIXI, and I don't expect an ambulance at my home anytime soon. OMG, some listeners can like two entirely different formats! Oh, watch the consultants deal with that one!

But, yes, FM sports would be a "new deal" on the Seattle radio dial, with the exception of some Seahawks games broadcast over the years. So it probably would do well. I guess we will just play this one out. I predict sports, perhaps Fox Sports, though I do not know the contract obligations of any current Fox affiliates in Seattle.

My money is on some type of classic or active rock genre. Between kisw, kzok, jack and ljr fm there are significant shares to gain there. It also balances the local clusters mostly female formats to bring in better overall 'adult' numbers. Jack kisw and kzok all have very wide berths now and a new format could position in between them quite effectively. Kmcq also had some numbers for what it was and that left a hole as well. So did the mountain. When you look at it in aggregate it becomes a very viable target to chase.

Since IHeart runs both Fox Sports Radio and KJR-AM, doubtful if the two will part company any year soon. As with ESPN or CBS, that all depends on current contracts. And if anyone remembers, IHeart tried having KJR Sports Radio on FM. It lasted a year, before they flipped back to music.

Since iHeart is running Alt 102.9 as a harder rock station to KNDD, I'd like to see a harder-edge Classic Rock similar to, but a little younger leaning than KZTI in Reno.

This is interesting. Just saw it shared in a friend's timeline: www.facebook.com/989ConservativeRadio/

Doesn't make really any sense to me to put a conservative talk on FM in Seattle but maybe Hubbard thinks they can get a boost in political dollars over the next 8 months and then they flip it to something else after the election? I'm sure some of the shows KTTH and KVI air would gladly prefer to be on the FM dial, but still. Weird if it's true.

That could be a fake account just to stir things up. Bernie 98.9 would make more sense if they were really after a younger audience in talk.

I too enjoyed Click until they started mixing in the 80s cuts. IMO that was the beginning of the end - a "fail mary" programming decision, if you will.

Will be interesting to see where the wheel o' formats stops - but I will say the stunting Marc Kaye is doing sucks.

Right now, they're playing Broadway and Show Tunes. (Now THERE'S a format hole if I ever saw one!) I'm envisioning flash chorus lines popping up all over Capitol Hill....

Anybody besides me think they tried to go after the M's broadcasts, failed, and used all the abortive sports websites, etc as a front for some sort of active rock flavor?

Lots of folks (by lots, myself) lament the loss of the Brew, which ended up being an OK active rocker at the end. KISW bills nice...perhaps positioning themselves between them and KZOK might get them a good hunk from both...My question would be whether they go more music intensive or personality based a la KISW/KZOK.

Interesting theory, X. We will probably never know, but it at least sounds plausible that they made a run at the Ms. I like your thinking.

They're on an Elvis marathon now. (Last I checked at 12:30am, they were playing Elvis and they still are.)

No way would they try to get the Mariners. First of all, it's not a license to print money like it was 20 years ago and if they were to get them it would have to be in the fall due to logistical issues.

Off topic....but heads' up to ford. I went to Hubbard sites to see what kind of content they have these days, and noticed they have a job posting for On Air/Board Op for Movin. Wouldn't that be of interest to you?

Sounds like an intriguing gig. I will definitely look into it. Thanks for the heads up!

Elvis, showtunes, Frank Sinatra...Hubbard needs to use ONE of their wheel of formats as smooth jazz. Make it a "KWJZ Emulator" for 24 hours. I'll tape it! Amazing how in just six years we went from KWJZ Smooth Jazz, to KLCK Click, to now the rumor of FM Sports or classic rock.

Is this on the Movin' website? I'm starting to look myself.
