KLCK 98.9 Turning to FM Sports

If I had to guess(and this is just a guess mind you), in reading this and other sites, along with a couple Facebook pages I have an idea of what might happen with 98.9 FM.

Thursday at 11 AM or so, they'll do a temporary format change to Conservative Talk; like some kind of all Donald Trump talk format, or all non-stop Donald Trump audio(clips from The Apprentice, his speeches and so on).

Then on Monday the 21st around 11 AM or so they'll switch to their actual new format of Sports Radio; or Active Rock or Classic Rock, whatever. Again, this is all just a guess on my part, and i'll probably end up being wrong, but all this is basically what I think is going to happen.

When my car stereo was still working about 5 years ago, I actually liked Click.

What's interesting is with all the people on this board who have connections in the local radio industry, no one here seems to know exactly what format the "new" Click is going to be.

Well, what I meant was taping the stream of KLCK when they had the overnight SJ. Yes, I still have KOAZ and WSBZ and WVSU to listen to for smooth jazz...

Why would one of us who has connections post what the format will be? First of all it's a trade secret, and secondly it's more amusing watching everyone go ga ga over what's loaded in the CD changer and where the format wheel will stop.

Madonna's gone, now it's AC/DC w/ "The Razor's Edge"...

I'd like to pivot the discussion from 'what' the format is going to be, to 'how' they will announce it. In the past, from my experience, I see stations essentially do a 'soft launch' start building it a brick at a time in public view. This has the benefit of saving the station money since they often can go months without hiring talent and gives them time to get out to the agencies and advertisers. But given the time of year, a slow roll will miss most of the 2016 money since in a couple of months much of the remaining 2016 business will already be placed and then you are fighting for scraps. Doing a 'hard rollout" where you come out guns a blazing would be refreshing and likely more profitable in my view. Invite all the prospective advertisers to a event at the station and maybe even invite one of us to flip the switch! Then introduce us to the talent, and sign us up right then. Getting the market curious and then 'slow rolling' seems like a loss of momentum at critical time of year (esp if it is rock, it's heading to summer here in Seattle)
I'd be curious to hear what some of the radio gurus like David Eduardo and other smart folks who work on the other side of the desk and mic, think?
Or we can keep talking about what songs they just played.....

They must really love us. We're the only ones paying attention to any of it.

OK...I get into my car to pull it out of the parking deck and what do I see?

My RDS no longer says "Click 98.9". I'm getting "Ocean 98.9" with the Rock format on the stereo.

My guess is in about 10 minutes (or in 6 hours 10 minutes) we will have a rehash on a classic radio format here in Seattle...

UPDATE: As of 0552, I have "Click 98/9" back on the wave radio's RDS. I'm taking that as a future hint and an engineer was fiddling with something at 5am...or perhaps the ultimate in deception?!?!

Is KLCK poking fun at CIOC-98.5 Victoria? "Ocean 98.5," "Ocean 98.9"...

It piqued my curiosity...usually when multipath or other interference hits RDS, it turns into a bunch of jumble the radio attempts to decode. Because of this, I feel it has to be somebody messing the RDS encoder in Bellevue this AM...either in prep for the new format or as the best case of throwing all of us off the new format ever seen during a stunt. I can't think of anything else that would cause my RDS to decode "Ocean 98.9" and the "rock" light on the stereo lights up.

I feel you're giving Factoria too much credit. They're not going to put an engineer on duty to change the settings on a display that roughly half of listeners have on their radios.

That would be damn amusing actually.. Randomly change marketing slogans on the RDS every few hours to get the attention of those scarce listeners who actually pay attention to the PTY and RT. Then watch the discussion boards for reaction.

True...so unless somebody put something in my coffee this morning to have me hallucinate (if they did, thank you...), or the engineering folks in Factoria really have nothing else to do, I have a feeling we are looking at the new name of this station right here.

"Ocean" flashed up on the RDS where "Click" was 15 minutes earlier and there was no "Caribbean Queen" or "Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car" anywhere to be heard.

Dear Marc Kaye,

Please go all Kokomo for an hour, the ensuing comments here will shut down the internet.

"Ocean 98.9...A sea of musical variety. You never know what you'll hear next!"(TM) (Yeah, still thinking it's going to be a run against JACK FM)

Yes...and for added excitement, go for cover versions (Muppets version and the Vandals come to mind)...radio edit vs album track...or a version from a live concert.

Seattle radio would never be the same...
