KLDT/55 in DFW going digital only

This was actually reported several days ago in the FCC's daily digest, but has yet to be noted here.As part of MediaFlo's efforts to clear channel 55 nationally for a new TV-to-cellphone service, KLDT has filed to go digital-only, which would clear analog channel 55. This is similar to petitions that were filed in several other markets, including Seattle/Tacoma (KWDK, channel 56) and Long Island (WLNY, channel 55) -- but the FCC may be slow to move on this one due to unresolved concerns over adjacent channel interference between the MediaFlow operation and stations that will continue to operate on channel 54 or 56 until 2009. In our case, the interference would be to KLDT's surviving digital operation, which will have to stay on channel 54 until their permanent channel (39) becomes available at the end of the transition.Needless to say, whatever happens with this petition, it won't have an earth-shattering impact on the market, considering what a non-entity KLDT is locally. I do wonder how this will effect the efforts of Johnson Broadcasting to sell KLDT and it's Houston companion station (KNWS)? Not that it seems that anyone has been dying to buy either station -- both have been listed forever by Hadden & Associates on their website.Edited to add the following... For those who are interested, here is the listings from Hadden's website:Top 10 Market Outstanding opportunity to get into the #7 DMA market with a full-power television station. Station would make an excellent duopoly property for the Dallas-Ft. Worth market. Top 20 marketsOutstanding opportunity to get into the #11 DMA market with a full-power television station. Station would make an excellent duopoly property for the Houston, TX market.

So how does hi-def home shopping to everyone? ;)

It wouldn't be hi-def home shopping - just digital broadcasting. There's a big difference. KDTN, KUVN, KDFI, KMPX, KXTX, KTAQ, KSTR, KFWD, KDTX and KPXD all have digital signals and none of them do HDTV.

A small note here: KDFI is transmitting in 720p high definition, but everything they broadcast is just upconverted standard definition programming. So far as I am aware, they have never transmitted a single program that originated in high definition -- but hopefully they will do so in the near future.
