KLFK 98.7, Wells

It was no translator. It was a full-blown FM running several kilowatts. It had 30 mile coverage at least.. It's not there anymore.. I think Johnny Le at the FCC in Dallas made a visit

As of when? I was in the area earlier this year and heard 104.1 at least 30 miles away.

Also, barely heard their KSML translator which they "moved" to the top of their studio building in Downtown from the tower near the east loop.

WTF is up with 104.1? It's a licensed station, KSML's translator is fine, same owner so I'd expect them to follow rules...

I think 104.1 is operated in conjunction with Hot 96.3, I heard the same DJ on both once...

KSML's translator was not fine last time I was in town. It was broadcasting from their studios downtown and was barely audible in that zip code instead of from their licensed tower by the school on the loop.

Was it playing the same format as 104.1 had? I just found this, so maybe they are planning on moving the R&B to Power 103.7.

That's interesting.

When I was there in January, 104.1 was playing R&B and was a blowtorch in terms of coverage.

103.7 was airing CBS Sports Radio, but it was incredibly weak everywhere except for downtown Lufkin and the audio was horrific.

And if I recall both 1260 and 1340 were off the air.

I was left in the Lufkin area just 3 weeks ago and it was off..

1340 is back on the air in Lufkin.. at least it was 3 weeks ago

104.1 in Lufkin is not licensed and never

The nearest 104.1 that's licensed is an LP in Livingston Texas and it was off the air last time I was in Livingston.. 104.1 is NOT a licensed frequency in Lufkin

I have never heard them on the air since 2020. Also the 95.9 LPFM is on the air but super weak. Hardly gets out 2 miles. I think it's just strong enough to be picked up by the 105.5 translator.

KDOL has been like that since moving down a channel. Not sure what's going on there, @HTX. As you stated, since "The Wolfeman" acquired K288FY, the primary LPFM has become somewhat of an afterthought. Then there's the whole thing of dropping the oldies format, which he had all to himself, for country music...with 97.1 right in the backyard. Almost as strange as Ken Luck keeping "The Eagle" classic rock brand for 1440/102.3, when there's Cox's version blasting in on 106.9.

104.1 was the country format that now resides on 95.9/105.5. Since then, I've not heard it on the air at all.

In that area another station I’ve never heard on the air is the 90.3 KPFT translator in Goodrich. I wonder how many of the under 300 people in that protected contour would even listen if it was on.
I had no idea, but I'm not the target audience for Pacifica programming. With the troubles they constantly face internally, it's no wonder.

A brief thread swerve, if I may. @HTX, pull that vehicle over, on the next trip through Goodrich, to a little hole on the east side of 59 called Lone Star Charlie's. It is between Goodrich and Livingston. You'll certainly be glad you did. Other than Mel's in Tomball, Charlie serves up the finest CFS you're likely to find in the State.

The area I'm in right now has 4 LPFMs off-air. One acted like they might have to buy a new transmitter/didn't have anybody who knew exactly what they were doing. Some stations just don't make it.
