KLIF 570 online loaded with commercials

What's the deal with KLIF 570 online? They skip the newscasts regularly & play 10 minutes of commercials at a time. In the mornings I've noticed when Jeff Bolton goes to break at 6:58, you get a solid run of commercials (thru the 7am Fox & local newscast, traffic & weather) until he comes back at 7:08. I've removed KLIF as a preset on my internet radio - before I smash it off the nightstand with a bat. There are only so many "Joisy" Mike commercials a human can stand without mental evaluation.

Either somebody's selling the crap out of online spots over there or someone is asleep in the control room. Not sure why the online feed has to be that different from the actual AM broadcast. Some cases yeah but not the norm.

It is likely that their contract with Fox News says they cannot stream that material...therefore, they "cover" it on the stream with online spots.

Yeah but I hear Fox on the online stream other times of the day. It's really inconsistent.

Guess their idea of serving the public is making sure the syndie talk shows are always on - forget the news, traffic & weather that nobody needs anyway.

It's all AFTRA's fault! ;)

Seriously though, I wish radio stations could stream all of their commercials online instead of having to replace them with godawful PSAs. At least for me, part of the fun of listening to a distant station online is to get the local "feel" of it, commercials and all. I might be weird, but I like to imagine I'm in the city where the station is located and listening to a real radio. Hearing annoying "don't forget to be a parent" PSAs ruins the illusion.

Agreed. Even with something as simple as the news or weather forecast you can get the local flavor. It was always neat to hear WHO Des Moines or KOA Denver mention snow accumulation & 4 degree temperatures on late night AM broadcasts, when it's warm in Dallas.

I'd rather hear local voices on commercials any day, instead of a PSA that was voicetracked out of LA or NYC. A Portland station sounds a lot different than one in Branson, MO.

Well that's what I meant. They have to pay because of AFTRA.
