As someone who grew up listening to KLIF in the late 50's through the mid-60's, I've been wondering if the station had some beef against Motown. Oh, they played plenty of the Supremes and occasionally I can remember hearing "I Can't Help Myself" and "Heat Wave" and "Fingertips (Parts One and Two)" but after I moved to New York in 1968, I found myself hearing most of Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations and many other great Motown artists for the first time on records that were being reprised as "oldies."
There was lots of wonderful black music on KLIF from the beginning, so it probably was not a ractial thing--possibly some business hassle. Does anyone know, or is this merely a failure of memory?
Thanks.
