KLIO flips to ESPN Deportes

Lynch and Oatman are probably spinning in their graves like lathes. A damn shame how such a great Radio legacy was lost, abandoned or whatever you call it. Who would have ever thought 1070 in Wichita would have ever seen such a decline. As the song says "Time keeps on slipping into the future".....wow...shakes head and walks away...

Pretty close to what i was thinking...a total waste of a big-coverage facility....with a format better suited for a 1240 or a 1410-sized station.

Waste of an AM station. Who in the world wanted to flip this big powered station to ESPN Deportes? I think they should pull the darn plug on 1070 kHz for what I can tell.

That station used to be the highest rated AM station in the market. It was a top 5 station as late as the late 90s. It is a shame what they did to that station.

KFDI AM 1070 from the mid 60's until the day of the sale was always THE market leader in revenue and ratings. The AM pulled double digit ratings for most of it's country history. The amazing part of the story is how well they did with the abysmal nighttime pattern and power.

Since KFBI had/has to protect co-channel KNX to the west and first adjacent 1080 KRLD to the south, as well as others to the east and north, the signal was a TIGHT figure eight pointed north south at a puny 1,000 watts. For years the 100kw FM was looked upon as the "red-head step child" which toyed with "outlaw country", "cosmopolitan country" and was never taken seriously.

Journal should have held on to the format(s) with the AM as "Classic KFDI" and the FM as it's current "Today's KFDI" format. Even though Journal has a low power FM running the classic country format, I'm pretty certain the bottom line would have been better served keeping the AM close to it's money making heritage.

But my opinion is extremely jaded...
