KLLC-FM on late night TV in the bay area.

KBCW CBS TV Station Manager Steve Poitras is asserting that Sarah and No Name are a bay area treasure! The pair is coming to late nights at 11:30 PM on Monday April 16. This should be fun to see. Anybody agree about the treasure part?

This was tried in the 60's by KBHK where Don Sherwood did a radio show, I can't remeber if KSFO was involved.. Anyway it didn't last long. Anyone else remember?

Sherwood was a staple in our home. My parents and I loved him!

The Sherwood "radio" show on KBHK TV had nothing to do with KSFO. I suggested to managementof KSFO in the 60's that a TV camera be placed in the KSFO announce booth. The boss replied "I have anough trouble getting you guys to do radio and am not going to add another element." As far as I know this was one of the first TV and radio combo ideas in the country

Carter may have a more definitive answer on this than I do, but I recall that the KBHK/44 program came about while Sherwood was in a contract hassle with KSFO, and his non-compete clause wouldn't allow him to go to another *radio* station.

So, instead, he did his radio show on the television.

Sherwood also had more standard late-night programs on KGO-TV and KTVU (and KPIX?) in the 1950s and 1960s, as I recall, that were in addition to his morning job at KSFO.

This reminds me of those stories I heard on KSFO at Sherwood's passing about the illustrious "Donnie Babe" told by those who worked with him. One in particular was a story about KSFO management hiring a limo company to go get Don in the morning to bring him to work as he sometimes showed up late, if he even showed up at all. This lasted all of three days, at which time, in true Sherwood fashion, Don just quit answering the door!! I'm belly laughing as I write this. ;D Another is from written material from KSFO itself about one incident of many that led to various "fond farewells and grand returns," where Don read 11 live spots in 33 minutes. In other words, a song followed by a live commercial, followed by another song, spot, song, spot, song, spot, etc., for half an hour after which Don was gone again.

I remember reading about the first falling out 'tween Don and KSFO management in the fall of '55 because of the late-night TV show Don did on KGO, which apparently made it hard for him to get up early enough to be on time for his KSFO morning show.

It's times like this that I really envy Carter Bee, since he worked with Don and knew him personally. It's no wonder Don was so beloved.
