KLLI drops Don & Mike tape-delay

A friend gave me the heads-up that KLLI (Live 105.3) was dropping the midnight-3 AM CDT tape-delay feed of the Don & Mike show, effective last night. Since the station streams online, I stayed up until 1 AM EDT to confirm this. And, sure enough, after Loveline it went to a replay of the Russ Martin show, not Don & Mike (despite what the station's website said).

Gut tells me either Loveline(what there is left of it,since Adam Corolla is going to AM drive in LA) or P&K may go into that slot sooner or later. My money is on P&K as they're not pulling any decent numbers in their midday slot. Its the same thing they did to Liz Wylde before they jettisoned her to FL. Wonder if KLLI is going to fill that slot with local AAA talent or syndicated?

Since overnights don't factor into the ratings for a station, I'd be surprised for any first-run shows to be given that timeslot (short of programs that are merely running out their contracts). The big question, in my opinion, is what the station will do when Stern finishes up. Will Russ Martin stay in afternoons, where he's doing very well (and where he doesn't have to get up insanely early)? If so, who gets mornings? Will Central/Eastern time zone stations run Adam Carolla's west coast show on a tape-delay in middays? Many questions remain to be answered...
______________

Maybe this has been answered before..but when Stern leaves why doesn't LIVE 105 simply rerun Russ Martin from the day before during the morning? It's not like his show is time-sensitive anyway...

I think they'd get him to do AM drive, which he says he wont. I have a feeling he'll cave with enough money...thats of course he isnt doing spittleville.

I certainly wouldn't consider tape delay in prime for a morning show. You can get away with hacking up Limbaugh or Laura with a partial live, partial delay...but not morings. People demand live programs as they wake up. I would certainly consider DLR 5-8, Crayola 8-12, P&K 12-3, Russ 3-7. I am neither Gavin Spittle nor Kurt Johnson, however - so, what i'd consider is of no consequence.

Tragic, simply tragic for all of broadcasting and the western world.

September, keeps making the rounds as a time of change at 105.3
I will believe when I hear it. Gavin isn't going to make logical moves when Stern leaves in January oops I mean September. Infinity has already told Gavin/Kurt what the hell to do, and of course this being Radio, they are the Yes Men. When Corolla takes over Stern's slot in LA, what happens to Lovelines? Does it get whacked or does Dr. Drew get a new sidekick-hey about Diamond David Lee Roth on both coasts.

There is plenty of home grown local air talent who could fit in and get ratings better than Pugs & Kelly or Everitt Newton-"HINT HINT YES MEN", (J Dillon, C. Scull, D. Lewis, The Mich, & others from the KEGL & Memories 96.7).

September is a little more than a month away. When do you think The Yes Men will inform their staff of the changes coming. Friday afternoon before Labor Day Weekend? or 2 weeks before.

Also, if a certain mid-day show was told they were moving back to graveyard duty and they refused, do they instantly violate their contract and management can fire them plus does not have to pay them? Is that how it works?

Your thoughts are welcomed.

When you said "D. Lewis" did you mean DAN Lewis? And if so, did you realize you put "Dan Lewis" and "fit in and get better ratings" in the same sentence?(LOL!) Also, don & mike gone?......glad to hear it! Just my $.00000002
Edited by DILLIGAS on 07/21/05 06:37 AM.

This is the silliest conversation I have read in quite some time. Between the ridiculous notion that RMS would be in both drives (the previous days show no less) to someone staying up until 1 am to hear (or not hear) a syndicated tape delay in overnights. NEW TOPIC...let's speculate about the ratings next week.

It seems a lot of people on this board a quick to shuck P&K in favor of a C Skull, J Dillon experiment, which involves bringing new talent under contract i.e. costs money that is allocated and would be better spent on marketing the new morning lineup. I am in the camp that believes an important factor in a personality’s success is time on air in market, and there is a lot of value with those CS & JD. That said, P&K bring a promotional element to 105.3 that is absent from syndicated mornings or RMS afternoons. IMHO the real opportunity for local change on the station is 7-10. I’d plug in a recycle hour (like The Tickets Top 10), which would help the audience digest the new morning programming and continue the build with P&K. I would go with a local, inexpensive personality 8-10p.

Isnt Dan doing weekend traffic for WBAP??? I think a move up from that is an improvement in any direction, But, I digress.

With Howie, its looking more likely he'll leave sometime in the fall as the chatter about sirius has been heating up(talking up his new studio, mentioning it on his show,ect..)

On the P&K thing, I think spittlecup will dump their sorry backsides faster than he did with Liz Wylde(at least he gave her overnights). I would rather hear people like Cindy Scull,Dillon, and even Dan (if he can fit it in his busy schedule at Six Flags and weekend traffic duty) in that midday slot.

DID YOU JUST SAY CONTINUE TO BUILD WITH P&K ??? I think they've had plenty of time to build ratings (years) It's way way way past time to put those two out to pasture...They've been on for several years now, and still haven't pulled the numbers that Ron and Don had and Ron and Don where only on the air for a year in Dallas.

I would love to hear The Mich Show again... rumor has it that Pugs & Kelly hate the Mich & his crew, and that's perceived to be a major obstacle. Plus Gavin would rather pack the station with syndicated shows.

I wouldnt doubt it. Seeing that Mich did well in their daypart, it made P&K slightly upset, hence why they got the boot. Methinks P&K are about to soon receive their comeuppance.
