KLMO 98.9 off the air

Well, the title says it all.
At the time of this writing KLMO 98.9 (previously rebroadcasting Paulino Burnel's Spanish Christian format) is off the airwaves.
Guess he's done here in San Antonio after almost 10 years. Hope he had a good run.

I just checked again and it's back, probably should have waited a little longer before posting it was down for good.

No worry, considering it's such an insignificant station. There may be more javelinas than people in their "city grade" coverage area.

I heard an ID on the station the other day... It lists tons of radio stations I've never heard on the air. http://sndup.net/gc3

How many stations of these are actually still on, and do they have any others in the network that aren't listed? I don't think this ID has been updated for many years.

That would be Paulino Bernal/Paulino Bernal Evangelism/La Radio Cristiana Network, Inc./(and I'm sure a couple more other names) lol

Out of all of his stations the only ones that I know of that are on the air are KUBR AM, KVOZ AM, and K201EU in Katy. Then there is KLMO (which he is leasing from Lopez) and that's about it. Everything else he has is off the air and has been off the air for 4 to 5 years. I am shocked the FCC hasn't caught him yet and deleted all his licenses.

Maybe they will, sooner or later. But for now there sure are a lot of "D"s on that list.

That ID has been running for for 8 years un-changed.. listen to this from June 2005 which I recorded off their webstream:

SAME ID!

No, the one you posted includes KBRN 1500 Boerne, TX. That station's Spanish talk now and is owned by Claro Communications.
No other differences though.

Geez...deleted frequencies in a legal ID that's currently running. When you can't even update your legal ID then there is something seriously wrong with your broadcast organization. This guy just needs to sell off his stations before the FCC catches him and he losses them. Take all that cash and retire from the radio biz. His days as a broadcaster are over. He should just stick to his church and his congregation. It's appalling to see someone that has all these stations and doesn't even have them on the air and refuses to sell them because of an ego thing with other pastors. And the worst is he lies to the FCC and renews licenses certifying that they have been on the air.

From what I have heard about the guy is that his radio ministry crumbled when it was discovered that he was having an affair with his church secretary or some lady from his church. One day he was preaching to the masses telling them one thing and the next day he was flying to Vegas in his private plane to drink and gamble. Which by the way he lost the plane. He now travels by tour bus from what I have also heard. I remember coming across his personal Facebook page a few years ago and there were pictures of him posted eating at fancy restaurants with his family and he was drinking in those pics. (Not too smart...probably why he doesn't have a FB page anymore) When listeners found out that he didn't practice what he preached he lost a lot of supporters who would mail in those donations every month. This is what eventually led to the downfall and why so many stations are off the air.

From my listening, it seemed he parked lots of stations. In other words they were on the air a few months and then off the air a few months.

As for selling stations, they're seemingly not interested and prefer turning in a license than selling it as was the case with a station I was interested in.

He has been fined for no local presence. I could never find a local office or designated person in some of his markets.

I've been told growing up that people who pay attention to detail and make sure they do the right thing generally do across the board but those who do not find a way to cheat on the rules which eventually is their downfall.

Actually running some stations sporadically may make sense for him. The stations that don't raise enough money to be on everyday can be brought online only when it's radiothon time.

Does he still even have an online stream? The one in TuneIn Radio was down when I checked a few months ago.

When I checked, no.. any links I could find were old and didn't work.

He doesn't even do that. Those stations have been completely off the air for years now. Just about every station he has (with an exception of the ones where he owns the land and tower) that is off the air doesn't even have a tower site or tower lease anymore.

I noticed the same thing. One of his deleted stations was off for years before they voluntarily turned in the license. As I understand it, he had a contributor that made the station possible but I suppose the listener base wasn't willing or able to retain the station.

YEARS AGO.. i made an offer on one of his stations that he no longer owns... but when he had it, it kept going on and off.. on and off.

My email/offer was never even acknowledged.

Paul

I spoke with a member of his family involved in his operation a few times and was told point blank they were not interested in selling or leasing any of their stations. A few months later they sold one of their properties...one we had inquired about. Don't know the details surrounding the sale but I got the impression the guy was being straight with me.

KLMO has been off for at least a week now.

Before a week ago when it turned off for the last time, the transmitter kept turning on and off, on and off. One day it would be on, the next, off.

If La Radio Cristiana can't keep the thing up 24/7 maybe Lopez can and probably should find somebody else to lease the station to, better yet program it himself and bring a new format to SA.

KLMO's back and seems to be stronger! Just when I post it's gone somebody decides to go and fix it. I think somebody from the station or engineering department's probably reading this.

I'm hearing English preaching on 98.9 right now. Did they change formats?
