KLOL/KHMX/KTBZ fate about to be revealed?

The Clear Channel deal was approved by shareholders today. Closing will be next Wednesday 7/30.

Since CC has to spin off two of the Houston FM's as part of the deal, we should hear something definite about divestitures any time now.

As long as it has taken for this deal to go through, you would think a buyer or buyers for the two stations would already be lined up. Of course, they could also go into a trust, pending a final sale.

Stay tuned. Could be the beginning of an interesting chain reaction.

I put my 10 bucks on KKRW and KHMX being spinned off. It only makes sense since KODA has adjusted their playlist (probably attracting their KHMX audience) and KKRW because of the signal.

The DOJ order requieres KLOL plus either of the two named English language stations to be spun off.

I'm buying KLOL and returning it to its rock roots. Stevens and Pruett, anyone? ;)

No, I'm buying it and changing back the calls to KTRH-FM. All-news (WBBM, KNX, WCBS, KCBS) on the FM (after experiencing the cuts from the lighting strikes of the severe thunderstorms on the battery-powered radio) and Air America Talk on the MW and the FM HD-2.

My Money is actually on KHMX and KLOL. Clear Channel has been advertising KODA, KKRW, and KTBZ on several TV stations over the past year. However, during that time, I have not seen ads for KHMX or KLOL. So, I think they'll go that route.

I don't want to see the old KLOL return, but Active Rock would be nice. Unfortunately, I don't think Stevens & Pruett are interested doing their schtick anymore.

And, I would LOVE to see Air America or Progressive Talk here in Houston. However, I think KPRC or KBME should try it. I bet it would do better than what is on it right now.

I love to see KLOL return to Rock & Roll-The way it should be! Houston's Radio has gone to The Mexicans, and With that change, we might have one less spanish-language station on the FM side.

Troy Goodwin: The mexicans? Shows how educated you are!! Just ask anyone where the buying power is these mexicans are taking over (KLOL is not a mexican station) Sucks to see ppl who still cant tell the difference and cant even apreciate what these mexicans do for this country!

having spent 8 months in Houston when the Pacifica station was bombed and the Grand Dragon of the KKK ran for Harris Co. Sheriff, I'm not surprised to find bigotry on this board.

You know, I bet you live on a trailer and married to your cousin...........Now, that's not nice for me to say is it? And neither it is for you to refer to Hispanics as "The Mexicans". Please grow up, Your ignorance is an insult to all humanity.

My suggestion that KLOL return to rock was tongue in cheek. Those days are past, as the money (and formats) will go with buying power and the perception that a market is under served. If there are too many stations in a particular format or style of music, then over time they will change to make more money and better serve the market.

This concept does not just apply to radio, by the way.

To be frank, I'm NOT a Racist-But I think CC might move MEGA to 93.7, The KLOL calls will stay at 101.1 FM. My Prediction: The Classic Rock will go to 101, and CC will pair this legendary station, along with the other rocker-KTBZ (94-5 The Buzz). Ater the deal, CC will primarily concentrate on MIX, SUNNY, & MEGA.

I don't happen to feel (and I know I'm the minority) that the current landscape of radio stations particularly well serves the Houston Market. I rented some cars this past month. All of them had XM radio in them. Very, very rarely did I find myself listening to terrestrial radio.

It wasn't a novel thing for me--I subscribe to XM at my house but since I communte from the outlying area on the bus, it didn't make sense to have it installed in my car for the 1 hour I spend a week driving around the 'hood and to and from the Park and Ride Lot.

So I made the choice to listen to XM versus the rotting buffet of homongenous static we have on the airwaves locally.

I figure it's KLOL and Mix. That said, I'd love for one of the stations to be flipped to a true AC format, such as what Sunny was in the 90s. Sunny sounding like Mix, these days, is a MAJOR turn-off for me. But, in my opinion, Houston radio has too much gibberish, anyhow, especially in the mornings; there probably isn't much that will change that, regardless of what happens with the CC cluster in the near future. It is what it is.

Did the KKK Grand Dragon win the election? Gus Hall of the Communist Party USA ran for president in the 1960s, but he never won. Anybody can run for office. You spent 8 months here around 1970 or so and came to the conclusion of the state of bigotry here in Houston, Texas in 2008 is comparable to the small amount of time spent here around 1970. I've lived in Houston all of my life and seen and experienced the positive changes that have been made through the years.

I think the big question is who will be the new owner of the stations.

If there are format changes, they'll most certainly be determined by the group(s) that get them.

Highly unlikely. I believe the DOJ ruled the Hurban format had to go because of the perceived control the new owners would have of the Spanish-language market. One of the private equity firms also owns part of Univision.

Pacifica radio was bombed 3 times. Two Houston police officers were aquited of beating an African-American motorist to death . The trial was moved to New Braunfels I guess because Houston was too liberal. Houston Astros outfielders were regularly mocked by the Houston fans for growing longish hair. KIKK had bumper stickers with 3 big red K's and a tiny i. Looked kewl at a distance. When school started in the fall , every male student in Pasadena high was sent home to get a hair-cut. The air pollution was so bad cars turned brown overnight. I obviously left for the far more liberal Richmond VA.

Sounds like you still want to be here. Houston is booming and adding 100,000 jobs a year even though the rest of the country is in a recession. How is Richmond doing? Also I would like to point out this article on the KipLinger financial site which ranks best cities to live and play.

Yes Houston had/has it's fair share of rednecks but so does Tampa which is where you seem to do most of your posting. I guess you think we all ride horses and wear cowboy hats.
