KLOL poster

Thirty-seven years ago when I left Houston, a bunch of things were packed up. One box was not opened until today. Don't ask me why, it just wasn't. This was one of the things in that box, obviously something given to me at KTRH at some point when I was working at 510 Lovett.

That is very cool. Takes me back to the days when I was next door at 500 Lovett, KILT.

Wow. Then you no doubt remember what Lower Westheimer was like before becoming gentrified. We could see the goings-on from the back windows since KTRH was on the north side of the building. I was at KTRH during the Michael Packer reign of (t)error.

Last time I drove by 510, more than a decade ago, I saw that the building was being converted into condos.

Great times in the Montrose. Our GM tyrant would take over once we moved to 24 Greenway. GM Dickie Rosenfeld had retired briefly, only to be brought back to manage Sports 610 Radio. The new tyrant would be out before the end of the decade. I left in 1997. There was magic in the air at 500 and 510 Lovett, Blvd.

Pretty neat poster. I tried searching and couldn't find anything on the history of the silver surfer head that KLOL used. Anyone have more information?

1000002520.jpgOne thing I have that's not nearly half as cool as that poster is this CD. I found it at goodwill for $1

If that were my poster, an item from my days working at that legendary place, having been a part of all of that, there’s no way I’d be thinking about auctioning it off. That would hang on the wall in my house
Don't worry. I'm not going to sell it!

Eventually it will be on the wall in my home office. Too early yet...we're still unpacking!

Definitely some of the names in the Ken Hoffman article brought back memories. Many of the KLOL jocks didn't really want to have much to do with those of us on the KTRH side. Linda Silk later came over to our side of the building as an anchor. Lanny Griffith split his time between KTRH - where he played it utterly straight - and KLOL - where the "Traffic Master" persona was in full evidence. Lanny was very, very funny. There are things he said that I can't repeat here, but which were hilarious. (Sorry.) Bobby "Slam" Duncan was one of the few KLOL DJs who would interact with the KTRH folks. He really was tall; taller than me. He mostly worked weekends and later went to KRBE(AM) when it was a classic rock station in AM stereo.

When Pruitt & Stevens first came in, it was quite controversial within both stations. Particularly on the AM side, the feeling was their contract and the money that came with it were the cause of an austerity drive that had recently started at the Rusk stations. Whether that was true, I'll never know. I personally never interacted with them.
