They also hired Don Imus and he doesn't come cheap. There's always money to be had even when they say "it's not in the budget".BC_714 said:How is Citadel going to shell out the $$$ to match what Leykis and others made at CBS. BC_714 said:Don Imus was worth the $$$ because he is an institution in the big apple and on their flagship station. Why would they want Leykis? Where would they syndicate him? The guy would be too expensive to hire and he wouldn't be syndicated to the east coast where he failed at WNEW and lasted just a few months. He also didn't last in Boston. Mark & Brian? Again if you look at the hosts that Citadel has in syndication they are east coast based. I don't see how they would take any of the KLSX talent and syndicate them. Mark & Brian have been a solid local morning show for decades and that's pretty much it.
CBS/WW1 will release him from his contract at anytime his lawyers want to make a settlement. He also said he'd work on AM, if you saw or listened to him on Tim Conway Jr's final KLSX show being questioned by Brian Whitman. He knows, like anyone else, the longer you are off the air, the worse it is for you. Rick Dees made a settlement with Clear Channel that eventually led to his working at Movin, or in reality would have led to his working at K-Earth if he had not been asking for so many perks.AnimatronicAbeLincoln said:Leykis said on his last show he's still under contract to CBS, so he couldn't make a move.
Citadel would be smart to keep running music on KLOS 'cause it fits their budget of zero.
When M&B's contract is up (whenever that is), you might hear even moar music, zomg!!
I think we're already discussing it.radioman148 said:>>Leykis said on his last show he's still under contract to CBS, so he couldn't make a move.>>
If he gets out of his contract where is the most likely place for him to land?
ABC did a poor job of developing Los Angeles based talent to be syndicated. Mark & Brian and Larry Elder being their biggest (?) success. That's not Citadel's fault. It does not mean it can't happen now. Remember, it is Bob Moore that not only started a classic rock station, he also killed it off. KLOS performs poorly after Mark & Brian and classic rock has ZERO growth potential here in Los Angeles, Mexico. He is the hot talk head cheerleader.BC_714 said:Don Imus was worth the $$$ because he is an institution in the big apple and on their flagship station. Why would they want Leykis? You're all forgetting one simple FACT. KLSX made great money even post Stern. With a stronger morning show at KLOS than Adam Carolla (the weak link at KLSX), with Mark & Brian, coupled with hot talk the rest of the day, KLOS could be a real "revenue" winner in Los Angeles and for Citadel. Tell me what other stations can attract those kinds of desired male demos that KLSX did? Certainly not KLOS as a Classic Rock.BC_714 said:Is Citadel going to pay Leykis more than 1.5 mil per year? I doubt that. He can stay at his ranch and keep collecting his nice paycheck until 2012. He would be open to go back to AM. The question is where? KFI? Nope. KABC? Nope. Remember David G. Hall is the PD at KABC. He fired Leykis from KFI so he could eventually hire John & Ken back in the early 90's. I would be shocked if Leykis worked drive-time in L.A. again, but never say never. It's just highly unlikely.

Citadel was a good medium market company that wanted to step up and run with the big dogs but instead, got eaten by them. You guys know LA better than I, but Citadel, well... couldn't score in a whorehouse.
