WQFL/WGSL Rockford Illinios is sold to EMF and this means that another local ccm station is done. I guess Air 1 comes to WGSL.

yep soon local talent, local traffic (listening right now and they just mentioned an accident blocking traffic), local weather, local news will be replaced by a satellite receiver in a rack.

I wonder what EMF would do if "the big one" (earthquake) ever hit rocklin? That would be a lot of stations spewing out silence.

I respect what EMF does to bring Christian Music to many areas that dont' already have established stations but they really need to work on some form of local presence. Their full powered stations do nothing local but a 10: second id at the 50: stop set. (and from what I been told most of the shifts on Air1 and KLove are voicetracked anyways)

I guess one positive out of this is the station stays out of the hands of a non Christian broadcaster so at least the format will remain Christian.

A locally owned CCM station is always best if possible, but I'd rather see a CCM station be bought by K-LOVE than for it to end up in the hands of an anti-CCM group.

I agree.. as much as I am of local radio... I rather EMF own it then it to be sold and become the next NPR outlet or worse, go dark completely.

Local radio is hurting everywhere, It was only a matter of time before another Christian station was gobbled up. At least it will stay Christian AC. (and the sister will likely go Air1 instead of it's current religious format).

I am here in Rockford and listened to QFL quite a bit, but kinda lost interest in the station... I have had a few friends who did some VT work for QFL and would listen to them, but for the rest of the time I didn't listen... QFL has been all over the road with it's music, but like most atleast I am happy that atleast EMF buying the combo will keep it Christian... CC1

I guess it was announced that EMF will be keeping 101QFL "Live/Local" and not putting KLove/Air1 on it!! Congrats to Darren and all them at QFL that will be able to keep doing what their doing.

Re-posted from the IL board: Most people here should be happy that I read on http://www.hisair.net/news1.htm Wednesday that WQFL 100.9 will remain local but WGSL 91.1 will become K-Love apparently. So one local station for the people in Rockford it sounds like. I was listening online tonight to WQFL and I did not like it much. Just the same boring ccm stuff heard everywhere. I am very disappointed Air1 is apparently not coming to Rockford which I like much better then adult ccm. It does not make sense to me. K-Love and WQFL are both currently adult contemporary Christian and play pretty much the same music. So how can they both co-exist? It would seem to me either the website has the info wrong or EMF will move WQFL to more christian chr? After being bored listening to WQFL I went back to listening to Air1 tonight.

This comes after EMF announced they would "study" leaving both local.

Prediction: What will happen is they'll run until the first ratings comes out then dump the local guys or sell WQFL.

If they had put Air-1 on 91.1 then I'd take it as they were serious at keeping it local.

My understanding QFL is considered CHR but I could be wrong. (Christian CHR's come in various flavors) I've only listened a few times. GSL was more of a teaching station my understanding and did not focus on music as much as QFL did which I am sure is partly part of the decision.

In Memphis EMF bought KSUD AM 730 and FM 94.7 and WPLX AM 1170 in 2000. They mainly wanted 94.7, but also had to buy the AM stations to get it. WPLX carried K-LOVE, but KSUD was kept local, although they went to a more classic CCM/programs format that didn't compete directly with K-LOVE. In 2003 they changed it to the K-LOVE feed as well until it was sold in 2005 to Simmons Media, who changed it to sports talk. Last year EMF sold WPLX back to the previous owners, but it is still carrying K-LOVE until a CP to move to 1180 and increase their power is completed.

The deal for the Rockford stations may have been a similar situation where EMF had to buy both stations to make the deal. They will probably keep WQFL local until they can sell it off, unless they possibly decide to switch it to K-LOVE or Air 1 later.

EMF does not keep AM stations and I am glad they don't. I do not think they will sell WQFL 100.9 as they like having 2 or 3 FM's per market. I just doubt the report that both WQFL and WGSL will both be adult christian music.

I fear what could eventually happen to QFL..

Just read this on Hisair.net:

" Today (7/31) was the last day for local personalities on KOBC/Joplin. Lisa David and Dave Garrison said goodbye for the last time to their listeners on the KOBC Morning Show. KOBC was purchased by EMF Broadcasting and will switch to KLOVE programming. (7/31)"

KOBC was transfered to EMF in 2008 and finally has flipped the satellite receiver on.
